The Rangers have officially named C.J. Wilson their closer. They have also told Jamey Wright and Franklyn German that they are on the team. Eric Hurley and Frank Francisco have been sent to the Minor Leagues.
Yay for C.J.!!! I'm intrigued by German too, but I'm still not sold on Wright. I guess we'll see. Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to seeing Hurley in a RedHawks uniform.
My prediction is that CJ is MUCH more valuable in facing key lefties (Ichiro, Garret Anderson, etc), and certain righties, in spots, much like Mike Venafro did.
In our ballpark, he could be valuable against the lefties aiming for Home Run Porch....BUT, overall, I think he will wear down. I wished for a healthy Aki or Joaquin, but, Good Luck, CJ--with our staff, I hope you get a save opportunity or 2 by the All-Star Break.
CJ certainly has the "stuff" and a good mental disposition to close, but I worry about his durability.
Like I brought up several months back, when Kameron Loe was being discussed as a starter, that Kameron was MUCH more valuable to come in and pitch once through the order, as it was proven and borne out in the stats, that twice around the order, that he got lit up or was ineffective. Kameron needs to be the long man or pitch to certain righties.
I guess my point is similar that I believe CJ would be much more valuable to our Heroes, if he could pitch in spots, and not get too much exposure.
I think I'll be validated, that a healthy Aki would have been much preferred. Wasn't Aki seen in Surprise, kinda showing he's healthy? He is proven, if healthy, to be one of the best we've ever had.
In the meanwhile, Go CJ! Go Rangers!
CJ is a perfect fit for the closer role. Hard throwing lefty with a high energy attitude. Can't keep a guy like that sitting on the pine waiting to throw to one or two lefties.
With our starting staff, we'll see how the bullpen holds up...I'm not as confident as evidenced by last year's performances, and by the most over-used bullpen in modern history.
CJ is just over arm troubles, and the jury is still out about CJ's durability. Being a Rangers' fanatic, I hope virginia above is prophetic; however CJ would be best suited to face tough lefties. An overworked, throwing 110% hard CJ, I believe will take an unnecessary toll. We'll see.
Yeah... Aki was in SURPRISE! Nope... he ain't healthy. He's having surgery and might not pitch this year... all this was discussed a month ago. He did mention the sTRangers would be his return home of choice, tho.
Go CJ! Way to go German! Things are shaping up... the relievers behind CJ (Fuki, Jaqi & Everyday Eddie) will provide a safety net - all three have looked pretty good this spring... might be the best sTRangers' bullpen since the monster they rolled out 2 or 3 years ago...
