Monday Morning Manager...Prediction Time, Part 1

All right boys and girls, it's time to step up and make your predictions for the 2008 season. We did this last year and remember, all posts are archived.Monday_morning_manager_10

Hi TR, It's been a pretty good spring training for quite a few teams. What really worries me is the amount of injuries that have happened ..not only to the Rangers but to other teams as well. These could really turn a good team into an ok one. I don't think I did a pick last year cause usually my picks finish last ...BUT I am trying this year (maybe to put the "mocka" on them)

1/ AL East... Boston,Yankies,BlueJays, Rays, Baltimore.

2/AL Central ....Tigers,Indians,Twins,Royals,White Sox

3/AL West....Angels,Seattle,Rangers,Oakland

4/AL Wild Card..Yankies

5/NL East...Can I go for a tie between the first 3? no... oh well Braves,Phillies, Mets,Marlins, Washington

7/NL West....Ouch ..hard one...ummm San Diego,Dodgers,Rockies,Arizona,Giants

9/ AL Pennant.....Angels

10/ NL Pennant.....Cubs

11/ WS Champs... Angels... sorry Cubs but no pennant for your 100th Year.. maybe next year :)

Give me Boston, Detroit, LAAngels and Cleve in the AL.

Give me NYMets, ChicagoCubs, Colorado and LADodgers in the NL.

I'll pick Boston to repeat over the Mets.

Well, I never do anything without consulting my crystal first...This is the same genuine, magic, authentic crystal used by the priests of Isis and Osiris in the dys of the Pharaohs of Egypt, in which Cleopatra first saw the approach of Julius Caesar and Mark Antony - and - and so on and so on. Now, you'd better close your eyes, my child, for a moment - in order to be better in tune with the infinite - we can't do these things without reaching out into the infinite...Now you can open them. We'll gaze into the crystal. Ah, what's this I see? --- Professor Maxwell from the "Wizard of Oz"

8 teams make it and the Rangers don't even sniff third place. Still, the word rebuilding never gets mentioned? What a joke 17 fans list so far, none of which predict the Rangers to win a damned thing. Yet we still hear we are close. Don't you have to face reality before you can change things?

I think the rangers are about 2 years away from winning if opie daniels doesn't trade any of our PITCHING prospects away.

I am a big believer in stats. I don't think, Washington lasts the full year in Texas. You are what you are. If Washington does stay the full year @ a .437 winning percentage, the Rangers have a 71-91 record. If he is fired quickly we may hit 81-81. Just one man's opinion. I did miss the won loss record last year by one game. So i am either extremely lucky or just THAT DAMNED GOOD! HA HA. Washington stinks. Lets see what his record is when the pressure is on? The question this spring is did Washington prepare his team out of spring training? We will get the answer very quickly. I hope he gets fired and we get Grover in here quick. He has always wanted this Texas job. Give him a chance. The guy can manage.

I was mesmerized last season by the Washington optimism, and after embarrassing myself and predicting a World Championship (and several also did, by the way),so I can't in my heart of hearts put any confidence that the Rangers will win.

I'm not going to predict other divisions, but here goes my picks for the eventual champs of each league:

I do feel the Mets will win the National League, and the Red Sox will win the American League, with the Red Sox prevailing once again in the World Series.

As to the Rangers, I predict a 3rd place finish, as their pitching just isn't up to snuff--WHAT'S NEW?

If they get any starting pitching this year, our Heroes might ZOOM into, oh, well, 3rd place. Oh, well, aren't we playing for 2012 and beyond?

It sure gets old "waiting for the youth" and that "prosperity is right around the corner." I'd take winning right here and now. But, that might make me a cynic. Well, let's just say I'm a skeptic instead.

Go Rangers!

Almost forgot about this:

1. A.L. East - Red Sox

2. A.L. Central - Indians

3. A.L. West - Angels (Seattle won't even finish 2nd)

4. A.L. Wild Card - Tigers

5. N.L. East - Phillies

6. N.L. Central - could be almost anybody but I'll make a bold prediction and say the Reds.

7. N.L. West - Dodgers (love their pitching. Kuroda's gonna be as good, if not better, than Matsuzaka)

8. N.L. Wild Card - Mets

9. A.L. pennant - Indians

10. N.L. pennant - Dodgers

11. 2008 World Series Champions - Dodgers (in 6)

Detroit seems to be the sexy pick to win it all this year, but there are a lot of question marks at the back of their rotation (Nate Robertson, Rogers, and Willis) as well as their bullpen (Todd Jones and Joel Zumaya's injury). And it's not like they have the organizational depth necessary in case of an injury. A lot of it was traded away.

The Tigers and i am not a Tigers fan other than a fan of how they have built their team recently, Tigerplan i do believe is what i will call it. But the Tigers make smart moves, yeah they traded away some young talent but Willis and Cabrera aren't exactly in their 30's on the backside of their careers. They also got the short stop that they so desparately needed. Boy it sure looks like that Hicks screwed the pooch when he selected Hart over Dombrowski. All over the fact that Hart wore Cowboy boots. What a joke. Here we are still reeling from that decision to let Melvin go and hire Hart, who destroyed this franchise, set it back 30 years. Wow is it any wonder that Daniels the boy genius, a protege of Harts is doing the same thing. I wish i could get the kind of free pass that Daniels gets from the media for his horrific deals. What do we hear? He is young, he has learned from his mistakes, he talks to the media is accessible. Who cares? Start putting the heat on him and see how accessible he is? I heard it from a reliable source that Ryan is none to impressed with the boy wonder. Thank God! That gives me hope that their is a voice of reason out there and i will wait for the axe to fall on the GM and Manager. Hargrove a fan favorite. Why is Hart still around on this payroll around this team. Say goodbye to him.
