Rangers sign five international free agents

The Rangers announced on Sunday that they signed five international free agents -- outfielder Chris Garia (Curacao), shortstop Jurickson Profar (Curacao), shortstop Luis Mendez (Venezuela), shortstop Luis Sardinas (Venzuela) and pitcher Daniel De la Torre (Mexico).

Profar pitched and hit Curacao to the 2004 Little League World Series championship but will be a shortstop for the Rangers. He was rated as the No. 15 available after the July 2 deadline to begin signing international prospects by Baseball America.

Sardinas was ranked as the No. 6 available talent by Baseball America. He is expected to stay at shortstop with his excellent defense. He has been timed in a speedy 6.83 seconds in the 60-yard dash but some scouts say he's run as low as a 6.6.
