Nate Gold released

The Rangers have released Nate Gold from Triple A Oklahoma. That seems inevitable with the arrival from different directions of Justin Smoak and Chris Davis.

Smoak is getting the majority of the playing time at first base because he needs more work there than Davis. The RedHawks are using Davis a couple times a week at first base, a couple of times at third base and a couple of times at DH. That's the plan.

Gold was the Rangers Minor League Player of the Year in 2006 when he hit .292 with 34 home runs and 103 RBI at Double A Frisco. He hit .292 with 26 home runs and 103 RBI at Triple A Oklahoma but the Rangers never brought him to the big leagues.

He dropped to .255 with 23 home runs and 90 RBI in 2008. He tried to go to Taiwan this year but that didn't last long. The RedHawks signed him back and he was hitting .256 with two home runs and 15 RBI in 25 games.
