Hamilton to have surgery...out 4-6 weeks

Josh Hamilton will have surgery on Tuesday to repair a partial tear in his abdominal muscle. He is expected to be out 4-6 weeks. The injury is considered not as severe as the sports hernia injury that Ian Kinsler was dealing with at the end of last season. The Rangers expect Hamilton back shortly after the All-Star break.

The Rangers are also unsure if Frank Francisco will be available on Monday. He is still dealing with a sore right shoulder but has shown some improvement and the Rangers are not putting him on the disabled list as of now.

Not good news, but it could have been a lot worse. And it highlights just why depth at any position is important.

ur right not good at all but this team rallys around eachother an i dont see any set backs but i do think we have to move hamilton out of center field when he gets back probly right then move cruz to left but i dont know im just guessing here

That hurts but im glad its not anything more serious. I agree with depth, thats what I love about baseball, everbody comes into play there is no relying on one person.

haha he is going to disappoint so many people in the All Star game. That aside, we need him back. The longer he is out, the worse it will be when he returns due to being rusty and getting out of his groove. 2nd half of the season is the pennant race.

Let's just get him completely healed and back ASAP. I agree that he needs to move from CF, but not until next year or when we have a new CF. It doesn't fit into the program this year. It's unfortunate that he got hurt, but you can't make decisions based on whether or not someone might get hurt. It could happen at any position.

I had a feeling it was headed this way. I just hope he's 100% for the last 2 months. It'll be like getting a big bat at the trade deadline without actually having to give up anything.

It is a tribute to Jon Daniels and the Ranger's commitment to building through the minor leagues, that the Rangers have been able to survive so many injuries this season. Maybe this is not their year, but they have a lot of young, exciting players. In spite of injuries, the pitching staff has performed well so far. The defense has looked outstanding at times. If they can play well and stay close to the top of the standings, they have a real chance this year.

sorry to hear about the big loss to hamilton, but the rangers have a good OF anyways. I think Andruw Jones can still play CF but im a braves fan and hes a hero to us. Good luck the rest of the way maybe our teams will meet in the series.

It's unfortunate for sure but I think the OF is plenty deep to keep things rolling along.
