Hamilton receives offer

The Rangers have presented an offer on a contract extension to outfielder Josh Hamilton and his agent Michael Moye. No details are available but the two sides are believed to be looking at a deal in the 4-6 year range with possible options.

"My agent and I were disappointed with their offer," Hamilton said. "The negotiations have begun."

Hamilton is signed for this season. He can be a free agent after the 2012 season.

Don't much like hearing that "D" word, but I'm sure his agent has told him exactly what to say publicly. No player is going to gush with enthusiasm over an initial offer.

All I can ask is....please Mr. Hicks; don't screw this one up!
Also, I wish both sides would keep the negotiations private. It's never good to negotiate through the media. No one ever comes out looking good. Especially in rough economic times, people do not want to hear about guys being "disappointed" by multi-year/multi-million dollar offers when the team has done nothing and normal folks are beginning to experience hard times. Keep the negotiations to yourself and let us know when you come up with something. If you are not successful, then tell us about the offer a la Mark Teixeira.
If you want your fans to spend their hard earned money at your very expensive event, keep your dirty laundry where it belongs....in the basket. Please?

They'll get it done, then we trade him in four years when we're 20 games under or something. Go Rangers!

I wonder if that Jesus guy Hamilton talks about so much would be "disappointed" with what surely is a multi-million dollar offer.

Matthew 19:24

nkynick, be careful....taking the Bible out of context is never good. Hamilton has the right to make as much money as the Rangers are willing to pay. I don't think he's using that to try and enter heaven or buy his own salvation (re:Matthew 19:24). He already knows how that works.
He probably was "low-balled" by the Rangers which is normal in negotiations. That's why I think the negotiating should be done in private. No need to attack Josh's commitment to God. It's not in play here...."that Jesus guy"? You obviously know scripture and I hope you really know HIM too.

To those seeking to assign motiviation or find hypocrisy; Would you do the same job for significantly less than your peer becasue your religious beliefs may be stronger than his or hers? If you were gifted with a talent that could bring money beyond imagination, what would you do with it? If your story and testiomony were such that you could help even one person from a similar fate, would you even have a reservation about sharing it? I think most of us would have similar answers...and show me the money isn't it.

The Hamilton's have been through hell and have come out the other side. They have a plan and a mission. I'll bet a good portion of the rewards of the baseball field that Josh realizes will go places and help others most of us will never know about.

So, I defintiely second what Sullivanian has stated. Keep the negotiations out of the press and media. Get it done, announce it, everyone says Yeah!, and lets play ball.

!!!!Non-Baseball content below!!!!

If you feel strongly about things that are unfair, I'd like to ask that readers of the blog to fire an email, if they feel so inclined, to our elected officials in D.C. and ask them to provide some extra measure of help to the families of the country's young enlisted service folks. Most of them would not be able to feed their family without assistance from programs like WIC as most are below the so-ca;lled "poverty line". That is an incredibly cruel reality in light of what these folks are asked to do before most of them and their spouses even turn 21 and it has been a reality for decades. Thanks in advance to any who take me up on this.
