Mayberry for Golson

The Rangers have traded outfielder John Mayberry Jr. to the Phillies for outfielder Greg Golson. He is a center fielder who was their first round draft pick in 2004 and supposedly adds speed and defense. He is on the Rangers 40-man roster.

Golson was at Double A Reading this past season and played in 106 games. In  426 at-bats, he hit .282 with a .333 on-base percentage and .23 stolen bases.

Mayberry, the Rangers No. 1 draft pick in 2005, hit .264 with 20 home runs and 71 RBI in 135 games and 519 at-bats combined at Double A Frisco and Triple A Oklahoma.

Sounds like two teams with the same goal:

cutting ties with underachieving 1st round draft picks

I thought Julio Borbon was our future center fielder? Could we please get some pitching for a former # 1 pick????????

Assume this is to make Byrd available to be included in a catcher-for-pitcher trade with Boston.

Right on, Bryant.

Then that would make it a catcher and outfielder for a pitcher. Has Boston really done well in trades with Daniels? Is it to get Boston to take a lesser catching prospect like Saltalamacchia? If i am Boston, i want Teagarden, forget Laird or Saltalamacchia. If Tea stays healthy he is gonna be a stud. It never surprises me that we would do that, trade a top prospect.
