The Rangers have fired pitching coach Mark Connor and bullpen coach Dom Chiti. Triple A pitching coach Andy Hawkins replaces Connor. Jim Colborn, the Rangers Pacific Rim scout, replaces Chiti.
Conner, so long it was nice to know ya. Sorry, but you should have been gone long, long ago. More of Buck's leftovers. I don't know squat about the replacements, but how can they be worse?
While we are talking pitching, why is it C.J. always seems to give up a few runs every time he comes in? I love a good game and all, but come on.
Surprise, surprise. I also thought this might happen last year. As for Wilson, just another typical performance with the offense helping him out. Hopefully, over the off season, he'll either settle down and improve or the Rangers will find a replacement.
The cheer heard around the state. Whoever is brought in probably wont have any better results, but they can't be any worse. Maybee they wont hurt as many pitchers. Hire Leo Mazzone!!! As for C.J., I have been a fan of his since he came up as a starter and thought that he had all the potential in the world. I have given up hope. His only chance is to move back to being a starter, because you can't be a closer giving up 2 runs, 2 hits, 2 walks & 1 hit bastter every single time you come in to pitch. Please pull him to salvage any chance of winning this season and sign K-Rod this offseason for any chacne of winning in the future. C.J. is not the future or present closer.
There will be pain with these young pitchers. TIGERPLAN folks, we have cut it loose way to early in the past and moved onto well nothing. I would have loved to have seen this "organization" bite the bullet with Ducsherer, Demptster, Davis, Danks, Galarraga, Volquez, Young and many others. YOU NEVER EVER NEVER EVER RELEASE IT, TRADE IT, OR ANYTHING ELSE TO THESE YOUNG PITCHERS. TEJADA AND GALARRAGA COULD HAVE HELPED THIS TEAM THIS YEAR, BUT SOME IDIOT TRADED THEM. WHY? ARE WE CONCERNED ABOUT INDIVIDUALS HAPPINESS OR THE ORGANIZATION? YOU NEVER EVER NEVER EVER TRADE YOUNG PITCHERS. I KNOW THIS IS A REACH BUT RA DICKEY SHUT US DOWN THE OTHER NIGHT ANOTHER FORMER #1 PICK WHO HAD SOME SUCCESS AGAINST US. SHOCKER. DID I FAIL TO MENTION VOLQUEZ IS GOING TO WIN 20 GAMES THIS YEAR?
“DID I FAIL TO MENTION VOLQUEZ IS GOING TO WIN 20 GAMES THIS YEAR?” – You failed to mention that advanced scouting seems to have caught up with Eddie over the last few weeks. His ERA is the last 10 games is 4.50 and in his last 7 games his ERA is 5.21. During that time opposing batters are tuning him up to an OPS of .879 and he's walking more than 4 per 9 innings.
You also failed to mention that the move to the National League helped him out quite a bit. His ERA this season against the American League is over 4 while it’s under 2.50 against the NL.
You also failed to mention we got a pretty good player in return for him.
RA Dickey is more than a reach. He’s a 33 year old with a career ERA approaching five and a half.
Dempster and Davis are having nice seasons, but it kind of dilutes your hyper repetitive list to have to include pitchers who have career losing records.
Robinson Tejeda has pitched less than 15 innings for KC. He has a nice looking ERA but has allowed half of his inherited runners to score. That rate would make him third worst in the AL if he had enough innings to qualify. Combined with the 3 out of 4 inherited runners he let score while he was still here and he’s allowed 58% on the year. To put that in perspective, a 56% rate got Franklyn German released.
Chris Young, in the last 2 seasons, has an ERA of 4.99 away from the ultra pitcher friendly Petco park. You’d have to think that would be even higher if he was facing DH’s in the AL on a regular basis. Combine that with his lifetime 4.70 at our ballpark and the fact that at 30 years old he has yet to reach 180 innings pitched in a single season it’s hard to imagine he’d be very valuable to the Rangers if he’d stayed here.
Who are the “many others?”
Historically, Nen, Darling, Righetti, Henke, Terrell, shall i go on. Hey that ERA of Volquez, well puts him at the top of this rotation, but hey i forget he is only a rear end of the rotation guy. Anyone who gets on here and disputes that the Rangers have notoriously failed to develop young pitchers and/or released or traded it before its time, well just isn't into the facts. I would take Davis, Demptster, Ducsherer, Young, Danks, Galarraga and Volquez right now today over any of our current guys other than Padilla. Millstone well just isn't worth that money he gets and doesn't work at his craft. It appears he doesn't work at his marriage either, so there you go. The bottom line is if Hamilton wasn't having this type of year, Daniels would have been fired already, period end of story! So Dan get busy with a 5 year deal for the former cocaine cowboy before he starts demanding a winner and more money ala that terrible guy Texiera.... Name any pitcher in the last 20 years that the Rangers have drafted and seen develop into a quality pitcher. Rogers is the only one. Brown became that guy, but he wasn't liked by Ranger Brass, to much quiones or huevos for their liking. Kevin Brown sure did well away from here.....
Hey hefe, what about Galarraga and Danks how are they doing? Is Danks better than Harrison?
Galarraga and Danks (not sure what he has to do with Harrison) are doing great. That's why I didn't mention them among the many other mediocre names you always dredge up. Danks is a good pitcher and should be good for years. Galarraga? I'd be surprised if he weren't due for a serious return to reality next season. Prior to this year he'd never had success above AA and wasn't even dominant as a 25 year old at Frisco last year.
Duchsherer is also very good. I have no problem with anyone lamenting about his being traded but when you include guys like Dempster, Dickey and Tejeda in your rants it's obvious that you're grasping for straws to make things look worse than they are in a pathetic attempt to further your management bashing agenda. Are we really to believe that the Rangers are at fault for not hanging on to Dempster for the last 10 years while he was 59-75? Hell, the guy was non-tendered by the Reds after the 2003 season. I guess we should’ve picked him off the scrap heap then because he was going to have a good 2008 at the age of 31. Pure silliness.
Doug Davis would’ve been a handy innings eater to have around for several years, but John Hart was foolish enough to listen to “baseball man” Buck Showalter who didn’t want any part of the young man.
You’d rather have Chris Young than anybody we have except for Padilla? If you had your way Padilla wouldn’t still be here. Remember? You’re constant whining about dumping Padilla all off season and into spring make your rants that much more hilarious. Clearly you’re much more qualified than Jon Daniels to run this franchise. By the way Scott Feldman has about 45 more innings pitched this season than Chris Young does. And, for the record, I wouldn’t trade Hurley, Harrison, Hunter or Feliz for Chris Young. He’d get his head knocked completely off in the AL pitching half his games in Arlington, his low inning totals taking even more of a hit. Those guys I mentioned have promise. Young is a fly ball pitcher in a big park. Looks like Buck was right that he’d never throw 200 innings.
“The bottom line is if Hamilton wasn't having this type of year, Daniels would have been fired already, period end of story!” – and this pains you greatly as we can all tell as do the signings of Milton Bradley and Eddie Guardado. Too bad your predictions of Nolan Ryan cleaning house and handing Washington and Daniels their pink slips by the All-star break didn’t come true. Maybe you shouldn’t listen to Randy Galloway so much. Hey, if Hamilton had flamed out or relapsed as you so gleefully predicted dozens of times the maybe Mench would’ve been the opening day right fielder. Another of your brilliant predictions. Did you get that one from Galloway too?
Some people will never forgive Jon Daniels for his past mistakes and you're clearly one of them, but it's evident to most that he's building a winner right now and doing it the right way, from within. One can either get on board and enjoy the ride or cry over spilled milk. I'm pretty sure I know which one you're going to choose.
“Is Danks better than Harrison?” – Time’s going to tell. The messed up part is you’re rooting for Danks.
"Historically, Nen, Darling, Righetti, Henke, Terrell, shall i go on." - Who would you like to see held accountable for these?
