German DFA, Loe called up

The Rangers have designated Franklyn German for assignment and called up Kameron Loe from Triple A Oklahoma. German, if he clears outright waivers, could become a free agent by refusing the assignment. More on the website.

Kameron Loe should be a plus in the bull-pen; however, he doesn't need to start again. His deception isn't good enough to fool batters over an extended period.

I was glad to see TR's comment about the Rangers failing to take pitches on this road trip. It was my observation also. Although they won Wednesday it seemed to me the trend was continuing before they turned the game into a rout.

About CJ: It seems to me he loses his temper often and tries to throw a 120 mph fast ball. Only problem is that it usually travels about 59 feet.

I'm scratching my head on this move, too.

What is the rush to bring Loe and his 5+ ERA back up? Are we in a win-now mode, and since German has been less than spectacular in his last three appearances he's got to go? We're not short of arms right now, so the timing for a move seems strange, yet again. (In the interest of full disclosure, I haven't missed watching Loe's painfully slow pace on the mound - he challenges Mike Hargrove for the title of 'human rain delay')

This roster continues to be a mess, and the plan seems to be changing yet again. Is Nolan starting to assert himself? Has JD defended RW to the point that their future is now tied together, so they both need to win now?

Anyone else out there think that the philosophy is changing again? Or am I reading too much into all the roster churn?

Good for Kam. Let's get that slider going and get some ground ball outs.

I've been crossing my fingers on this guy for a long time now. I really hope this is the call up that sticks.

I think they just wanted a fresh arm in the bullpen and Kam got the nod over Tejeda because he's already on the 40 man roster. They could've sent Rupe down, but chose to take a chance on losing German instead. Franklyn does seem to allow a lot of inherited runners to score. Maybe that and his wildness was a factor in the decision.

Sudden thought:
What if the Rangers had Coco Crisp instead of Josh Hamilton? EEEEK!!
Torii Hunter, Aaron Rowand and Crisp ( the 3 centerfielders thought to have been targeted by the Rangers in the offseason) have 58 RBI among them. Hamilton with 53 all by himself.

The next 5-6 years are going to be great for Ranger fans.
Hamilton is so much fun to watch, never know where the ball is going!

I assume this is a quick trade opportunity. German's trade value's never been higher and any team that wants him would trade a reasonable prospect for him.

I was thinking I'd rather had have him today than Benoit but German isn't our setup guy and I don't have a decision in the process.

The Rangers can trade German in 10 days. How many other 96-98 mph 2ish ERA veteran relievers are available at this second? I feel somewhat confident Daniels had an idea of the offers before the designation. If he declares for free agency I will question the move.

Haven't had much to say in a while...

I knid of like this move, if we get something back, more the better.

Kam just needs to accept the fact he is a better bullpen guy. Look at Jamey Wright, even if we don't keep him, he'll make a lot of money over the next few years as a relatively dependable middle reliever.

I have liked Kam in the past, but I'm very disappointed in his remarks about wanting to be in the rotation. Much like Laird's comment about having to compete for his starting position, I really wonder how these guys can have such an inflated sense of value.

I'll admit that a slider will go a long way toward his cause, but Kam currently doesn't have the stuff to get through the line-up twice, let alone facing the same team twice in five days (as has been the case several times already this season for Ranger starters). Even if his memory of past starts is flawed to this degree, he's always free to check the stats, which backs up the point that he doesn't get many out the second time through the order.

I've always felt that he could be a very good middle reliever if he were to accept that role. Baseball isn't about personal value. It's about helping the team.
