Pitcher Robinson Tejeda has cleared waivers and has been assigned to Triple A Oklahoma. General manager Jon Daniels said he will continued to be used out of the bullpen....
It works out great that Jason Botts gets the start in a doubleheader. What that means there might be a guaranteed 12 AB's for him this year! One start out of eight games is a great accomplishment.
T.R. do the Rangers know who they? Ranger's fans do the Rangers know who they are? Alex Gordan got off to a terrible start last year, as I believe Billy Butler did as well. I know those are better prospects, but why if your the Rangers do you not play Jason Botts except in the first doubleheader of the season.
The Rangers have no idea who they are, they need therapy.
Great on being able keep Tejada. Hopefully it is more of a function of just being too early in the season for clubs to start taking fliers on waiver wire guys.
Is it me or is RW monkeying with the lineup too much too soon? The quotes on the possibles for the double header are all over the place but no mention of the catcher getting one of the games off. These guys need to get going and the only way to do that is keep getting the starters AB's against front-line pitching. Sitting Hamilton and Broussard in the second game... I know its early and maybe RW is trying to define roles but Broussard is hitting lefties better than Kinsler and MY at this point. If Bradley's knee is still that much of a concern why is he not on the DL instead of trying to play with a roster that essentially has 3 DH's? Two of which are switch - hitters?! This doesn't help lineup stability.
We need to win both of these games today and we're scrappin' to score runs so we are gonna leave some offense on the bench? I'd rather see us get the season established before rushing guys into games or trying force things into preconceived notions.
I hate to disagree Sean but these are nice to win games but for the 8th and 9th games of the season they are not necessarily must win. ..our season won't be ruined if we drop these. Would like to see Millwood get what he deserves though. Hope he shortens up on the hit total today. Gabbard throws at about the same speed Jennings did...high of 89...wouldn't doubt if they hit him hard. The O's can really smack it. I'm sure the manager just wants to get everyone into the mix as far as the linup changes
Hamilton dropped off a bit lately maybe RW sees he needs a rest...remember that flu thingee may still be around for these guys too.
As far as Tejeda hooooo hummmmm. I can't see where he would figure for us this year or next barring injuries to two or three guys at the same time. You don't want to lose him with no compensation but I can't see that anyone is too interested in him.
The big difference between Gabbard's start and Jennings' is that Gabbard kept his sinker and his curveball down in the zone and got a lot of groundballs. When Jennings has missed, he missed up and gotten clobbered. Neither one of these guys has the stuff to pitch in the middle/upper part of the strike zone, but Gabbard's command has been the difference maker. If he keeps the ball down again today he'll be fine, but if he misses up it'll be Jennings part 2. Same for Mendoza on Saturday.
Point taken Fred. That was just a bit of "ya can't win the pennant in April but ya can darn sure lose it" (see 2007) coming thru. At home, I just think we need to put our best foot forward.
You're absolutely right Hefe, Let's hope he has the good control in #2. And Sean you're right too.....if you get so far behind you can't catch up even with a good record post all star game.
Awesome pitching by Millwood in #1...too many walks but he kept the hits down and got what he deserved the last two times. Should be 3 and ). Benoit is tied for third high in strikeouts on the team. Is he in the groove or what...Last 7 batters faced I think 6 k's.
Great outing for Millwood, alright. It's one thing when he goes out and has great stuff and can shut down the opposition, but tonight he clearly didn't have his best command and still was able to shut down a hot club for 7 innings. He's looked like a #1 so far this season.
I'm happy now...
RW used the DH for Josh in #2. He still looks like he is trying too hard at the plate. Doing OK but still swinging at pitches I think he wouldn't swing at normally. Briniging Broussard back in turned out to be a neat move in game 2.
The Benoit to CJ thing looks strong. I hope those guys get lots of chances.
Jamey Wright looks good out of the 'pen as well. He may have just added years to his career
Millwood looked like he was kind of scruffin' along early but late in his game he really made some pitches and had the stamina to dig down and do it, that was impressive. That's 3 good starts for him I hope he can carry it through when it gets hot, he'll have some bad games but as I said before, we don't need to lead the league in pitching, just do the job and we'll be fine. Just like Gabbard did the job in game 2. I guess it is just that old cliche about the starter keeping the team in the game...
Well done guys.
Well, since the blog title is about Robinson Tejeda.........Here goes a comment about him. I'm happy no one claimed him! He 2-hit the World Champion David Ortiz/Manny Rodriguez-led Red Sox last year on a cold night at the Ballpark....
Then, he went down from there. I have stated over and over he has the "stuff" to be successful in the Major Leagues, and has proven it, as far as holding the Red Sox to a paltry 2 hits last season. The trouble resides in his approach, period.
I feel if Mark Connor can't get through to him, then only a Fergie Jenkins could. Robinson takes entirely too long to release the pitch, he worries entirely too much about the runner at first, and he gets rattled with any adversity. (Keep in mind, he has the "STUFF". Fergie is everything Robinson is not, pitching-wise. Fergie bent but never broke. His legendary homers allowed were plentiful, but usually always solos. Fergie stayed around the strike zone, and had a tremendous out pitch in his slider. Fergie could have cared less about runners on base-he was locked in on the batter. He never got rattled with adversity, and bent but never broke. And, importantly, he pitched COMPLETE 9-inning games as a matter of course, and in about 2 hours!
IF, and I maintain it's a huge IF, IF JD and now Nolan (thank the Lord is here), Fergie would be hired as the Rangers' roving pitching coach to teach the veterans and the up and comers, HOW to approach the game mentally, and keep the game moving at a brisk pace, so the infielders stay on their toes and not back on their heels, a la Robinson and our man Vicente Padilla (who pitches like he's expecting the game to go nearly 4 hours, so what's to worry?)
I'd love Fergie teaching our pitchers--no disrespect to Mark Connor.
One Rant: I HATE THIS NEW FORMAT FOR THIS BLOG. The old format was streamlined, easier and this one is jumpy when typing, and aggravating, as many times it doesn't connect to the proper server.....(and I have the fastest speed DSL). TR, a complaint: This new blog format stinks.
Does anyone else experience this? I never ever had a problem with the old format.
Just for the heckuvit: Dave Tobik, Mike Henneman, Cecilio Guante, Barbaro Garbey and Rick Leach.
