Blalock out 3-4 weeks

Third baseman Hank Blalock will be sidelined 3-4 weeks with a small tear in his left hamstring. The Rangers will make a roster move on Tuesday

This really stinks for Hank, as well as for all of us who were looking forward to seeing him back and doing well. 3 to 4 weeks has a historical habit of turning into 6. This is a big year for him for his long term future with the team. The other sound I hear is his trade value slipping if the Rangers don't see him as a long term piece. Losing his bat doesn't help things today, either.

I hope you all will permit me a small rant now: Can anyone on this blessed roster play replacement-level defense, bat for replacement-level OPS and stay healthy? JD built this brittle roster with retreads and injury-prone players, and we can't even get out of April without more turnover on the roster than the Red Sox will have all year.
Sorry. I needed that.

It will be interesting to see who comes up - Travis Metcalf is still on the DL. Don't see much else in the farm at first glance. Nothing attractive on the FA sideline, either - let's please don't go there.

Man is this thing in the ditch!

If you re-build it they will come. What is Nolan waiting for? If Wash and Dan aren't fired within this week then beef boy was just brought here to sell season tickets and as a public relations ploy. The whole league is laughing at us and are readly to pick us a part like sharks. Bradley, Cat, Millwood, Young, Padilla, Laird, Blalock all for the taking. Build this team around Kinsler, Hamilton, Murphy, Saltalamacchia, Wilson that isn't a bad start. DFA Broussard or trade him. Why does Wash play this guy every freaking game? He is at best a platoon player.

OMG, SOC, looks like somone needs to get a "life" or boost their medication intake! Enuff is enuff already.........

This one will hurt for a while, too bad for Hank and he was really starting to hit when it mattered. 13 games against the division over the next 3 weeks with no Metcalf and Duran looks overmatched up here at the plate; probably just a function of not enough AB's but man thats all we seem to hear about is how we have to try to find AB's for what seems like 8 guys and 3 spots.

So we are going to call up yet another outfielder??? Is it really good for Boggs to start sitting around at this point? I doubt it. I guess Cruz really is done here. Can't Davis play 3B, oh that's right, not on the 40 man. Is Duran really going to get significant time at 3B?

This looks more like managing the 40 man for the future because an 8 under start has the front office waving the white flags already...

I hate to be cynical but it looks like the message is: Fans, you can use some 4A baseball. Maybe Frisco really isn't that far to go...Briant77, I gues I am just paraphrasing your rant. Can't we at least do our level best to put an MLB product on the field?

Sean, you're right on with your comments. This is roster management. With no infielders available to come up we get another OF. I wonder what baseball man must think when he loses a key player at 3B and JD says "well, here's a rookie who hasn't played in Arlington to add to the OF."

If one steps back and looks at it, one almost has to laugh at the absurdity of the active roster. What a complete and utter disaster.

We have talked at length in the past about the need for stability in the organization. That we need to avoid regular turnover in the GM/Manager/Coaching positions, and I think we can all agree. This simply must start happening on the major league roster as well. It has got to. Particularly with the pitching. The losing cycle we are in will never be broken until then.

This is 100% on JD. Who did he more recently sign/acquire for the team?
Guardado - on the DL
Nippert - on the DL
Jennings - major injury risk
Hamilton - significant injury risk
Bradley - has played a full season once since 2001
Gabbard - how many arm surgeries?

JD is not targeting players that can stabilize the major league roster. I don't care if Carlos Silva wasn't a stud or a bargain on the FA market. The guy was 29 and will give Seattle 200 innings this year (and beyond). This is an example of the kind of player the franchise needs to add - a guy who can bear the strain of a full season. Nothing spectacular, but rock solid. Premier FAs aren't going to come here until we have some stability. Can anyone blame them?

I'm not saying we should have seen the Blalock injury coming. Not at all. I am saying that we can't keep signing guys with injury histories because they can be signed for cheap. Hicks must turn loose of some more cash for the payroll.

While stability is needed, JD and RW have proven themselves incapable of providing it. These two are not leading this team and franchise where it needs to go. Looks like more instability ahead, too. Too bad. I think the concept of building up the minors and getting younger is the right way to go. Too bad JD won't get the chance to see it through.

I think it's better to wait until later in the season to blow it up, but if Nolan's ready, I'm ready. If the decision has been made there's no point in putting it off.

Just saw that Botts will be DFA'd today to make room for Chris Shelton.

"the Rangers need somebody with a little bit of a track record of big league success against right-handers."

It's amazing what knee-jerk reactions the injury of Blalock has brought about. 38 at-bats for Botts this season. That's stellar!

Sucks for Jason. It's not like he's been good, but at least he put up better peripheral numbers than Broussard, who's playing twice as much.

Unreal! Botts has done everything we've asked of him for years in the minor leagues and we give him 38 ABs to prove he's a big leaguer. And we've been asked if 26 games is too early to pull the pin???
I'm gonna throw up if I have to watch Broussard for much longer.

First of all, it should have been Broussard that was designated for assignment. Another brilliant offseason free agent signing by the Rangers. I guess we should have seen it coming given that we've witnessed Ben Broussard in a different disguise for years now while Oakland, Anaheim, and Seattle have all ran away with this division with varying degrees of sucess, while we are given major league retreads, who, we are told, will turn it around under the guidance of our miracle making wunderkinds of a coaching staff. Is anyone suprised Shelton will now get the bulk of playing time at 1st? Shouldn't be. Now Botts is gone while Broussard rides the pine. Back to the role he has had for the last few years . . . why not do it here in Arlington? Botts has played 93 games, and done nothing, and so he probably deserved his demotion based on his performance, lamenting his departure is an an exercise in futility. Don't bring up Travis Hafner, because Botts has had his opportunities over the course of three seasons and has done nothing to earn regular playing time. He leaves with a .158 batting average. Hey, Boggs is here let's trade some mediocre, aging assets( Cat, Bradley, Laird) and get this rebuilding thing going full speed with no more lame, empty promises about overrated veterans from the front office? What say you? It is only April 29th!
