Hurley gets another start
The Rangers brass had a pow-wow Monday morning to discuss their pitching situation. Most notable is they have decided to give Eric Hurley another start in an A game. Manager Ron Washington said he'll pitch on Saturday against Seattle in Peoria. Jason Jennings will likely start in a Minor League game. It appears that Hurley still has a shot to make this rotation.

I hope he does well.....and still starts the season at Oklahoma.

After many bonehead blunders by Tom Hicks and Jon Daniels, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt when wanting to give every chance to start highly-touted and rated starting pither, Eric Hurley.
Kudos! Why have some 4-year plan with this team? Is anyone besides me ready to maybe win some games now, and hopefully, win more than the Angels and the Mariners, and win a division?
I maintain this: "Let the person who is PRODUCING, to win the spot. I'm not talking about who is or was hitting in Double or Triple A or the Mexican League, but who is producing now should, by logic, win the spot. Competition, I think they call it.
Hooray for Eric Hurley starting--I'm pulling for you to not only win the 5th spot, but to be Rookie of the Year.
A parallel: How many times does a basketball coach pull their best player who has 4 fouls, and about 10 minutes left? Happens a majority of the time. It's funny to me, as watching "March Madness" and when a team was losing and very much in danger of missing out at getting into the NCAA's, and they take their best player out of the game....for what? What are they saving him for....NEXT YEAR? You have to go with your best and let the chips fall where they may. Much the same way, we've heard all the upside to Eric Hurley, and I believe he's the real deal.
With our pitching VERY sketchy, unreliable and physically-challenged now, we must go with Hurley. If we kept Hurley in the minors, that's one more year out of his arm, and I'd rather have his arm used to excel with the big League club.
I have gotten rather discouraged and miffed this past decade, with management's, "We have a great farm system, and prosperity is right around the corner." (Meaning, "We will start playing to win in 3-4 years.") ENOUGH!
Go Eric--we believe in you!

Don't take this the wrong way guys but has anyone noticed what Edinson Volquez is doing in ST? 19 strike outs 3 walks with a 3.46 era in 13 innings. Leads the grapefruit and cactus leagues in strike outs.

It should also be noted, however, that Volquez has given up 15 hits in those 13 innings - so he hasn't exactly been lights out.
Wait until the season starts, and he has to go through lineups like the Brewers, the Cubs, and the Astros - we'll see how he fares having to face teams like that on a regular basis.

Hamilton has been lights out, but all things being equal, i will take the pitcher everytime. Besides the Rangers couldn't be wrong about Volquez. They said this about him, he is at best a 3rd or 4th starter on a good team. Remember as i often do, they also told you that Millwood was a #1 starter, that Chris Young was the same as Loe and that McCarthy had a better upside than Danks. To me Danks is the one to watch, i believe he will take that next step in Chicago and when he does that is going to hurt. DVD, DVD, DVD anyone remember that carrot? Wait for DVD they are our future now all we have is D for Diamond, who ain't one. He will be lucky to be a reliever, pretty good for a first round pick, huh? You never, never, never ever trade young pitching their just isn't enough of it to go around and it is too unpredictable. The Cubs evidently know this as Byrd is still a Ranger. Let me get this straight lonestar, when our guys pitch great in the majors it is great and when another guy on another team has better stats than any of our guys then we have to wait til he goes through the rosters of the Cubs, Astros and Brewers. Wait til our guys go through the rosters of the Angels, Mariners and A's along with the Red Sox, Indians, Tigers and Yankees. Who do think will have a worse ERA, our guys in the shooting gallery or Volquez up there at his field. Anyways i hope Volquez wins 15 games so Daniels get his walking papers.

"All things equal"...the problem with that is the fact that nobody in spring training has been able to come close to equaling Hamiltons stats, pitcher, infielder, outfielder or catcher.Oh and that field that Volquez pitches in is one of the best "Shooting Gallerys out there. All that aside though, with what ive seen from Padilla and Jennings gives any ranger fan som optimism for the season. I mean Jennings dosnt have his velocity and hes still pitching shutout innings. I do belive our minor league talent that Daniels aquired these past few seasons will make or break this franchise, but i see great things in our future...However till that day comes all we can do is be patient..the new Rangers slogan.

**** right Hurley deserves another start.
And seriously how can we deny Hurley the 5th starter spot if continues to pitch better than Mendoza. ****, Hurley has been pretty **** good so far during ST

I qualified my comment by saying "Don't take this the wrong way guys but". Nor did I say a word about not being pleased with Hamilton.
If you want to debate, debate facts. 19 k's in 13 innings is a fact.
"Wait until the season starts, and he has to go through lineups like the Brewers, the Cubs, and the Astros - we'll see how he fares having to face teams like that on a regular basis" is speculation.
(Next thing you know I will be called ignorant)
Great pitching beats great hitting every time.

"Great pitching beats great hitting every time."
Growing up an OSU college baseball fan, I have to laugh at that comment.

only problem is, Volquez isn't great, while all reports indicate that Hamilton is.
