A minor point of clarification

Jamey Newberg is blogging daily from camp all this week and you can check him out at: http://newberg.mlblogs.com/

His observations and stories are terrific, always worthwhile reading.

One important point if you will indulge me. He had a blog this morning relating manager Ron Washington hitting ground balls to Max Newberg.

He accurately set it up by saying I told the manager, "Wash, right there is the only player in camp you haven’t hit ground balls to.”

That is correct except that I did not refer to the manager by his nickname.

No way. Not then, not now, not ever. Will never do that with any player, coach or manager. Absolutely nothing wrong with doing so. I just prefer not to.

Well, actually, probably did so with the future Hall of Fame catcher known as Pudge. That was almost his accepted name. And technically the former manager's real name was William, not Buck. Buck is technically a nickname but he prefers to go by that. His choice

There are no absolutes. But I try hard not to use nicknames and do not with the current manager

No disrespect sir, but you may want to loosen that tie. Seriously, thanks for being such a professional.

I stand corrected, Sully.

Propriety and professionalism is wonderful, but what Postcards fans really want to know: what is the real story about the rabbit attack (see the Newberg Report from 3/18) and is the rabbit okay?

All of a sudden I'm reluctant to call you TR. I was raised to call everyone older than me "Mister" or "Mrs"...In the modern the latter has been altered to "ms". I'm pushing 61 and there are fewer and fewer people in that older category.

As my father taught me "You can take the boy out of class...but you can never take the class out of the boy." It always shows up some way.

But...don't ever call my team a mid market team and use that as an excuse for having starting pitching that even the execs know is sub-standard. See the Thad Levine interview today. Chaps my minny!

Sorry...that was suppossed to be hinney!

Who cares what you call Ron Washington.

You come off as some sort of a (ate up with yourself) reporter elitist

Why bring it up!

I appreciate the distinction you are making here: you are friendly, but not friends with, the people about whom you are paid to write objective news reports. Those who dismiss this entry as simply you being uptight might be missing this part of your point. Your integrity was never in doubt with me, although I appreciate your vigilance in preserving its respectability.

I'll tell you what I call Ron Washington. He's a pathetic joke for a manager.

I don't hide behind or agree with all the so called phony fans who think he's our savior and is going to lead this team to the ALCS. Just because JD hired him we're suppose to think he's the right stuff??? ****, JD can't even make good decisions when it comes to trades. Why the **** should we think hiring Ron Washington was good?

Ron Washington is nothing more than a average infield and third base coach.

He's not a leader and he's **** sure not a skipper that can put this team on the right track to winning.

This hiring of Ron Washington as manager over Trey Hillman makes me want to puke.

I want to thank the couple of guys above for reminding me and then proving the point that not every lesson on class takes. Our points were evidentially lost on you fellows. Why don't you just sit back in your ratty recliner, pop another brewski and oh....before you sit down be sure to close the trailer door so the roaches don't take over. Have a good day.

To fredr_us,

I am 63, drink Bourbon, do not have a recliner and the only trailer I own I pull behind the garden tractor.

I also do not get your point.

TR's pint was that no matter how much you see these guys...no matter how much thay may be our heroes...and we're their fans he still calls them by their given names unless otherwise excused.

In a class act in itself Jamey admitted to be corrected. Eleanor tossed up professionalism and I attributed TR's politeness to his classy up bringing. You saw what followed...pretty classless comments and might I say in this era of political correctness...suspicious comments. So I just asked the guys to close their trailer doors and think before responding again..

At 63 you probably have reflected on what your parents , teachers and friends have added in terms of manners, social grace and the like. Well obviously some people can't be taught. Now you know what I meant

Of course rendon understands class. He does drink bourbon, after all.

Perhaps we need to hold class on logic, too. Hurler is still clinging to the belief that JD can't make quality trades.

A premier CF and top-notch farm system brimming with pitching beg to differ.

fredr,

Thank you for your response and I now understand what you were saying.

If you participate over at LSB you would be familiar with Hurlyhurler (and several more) , most are very young and you learn to ignore.

Mr. Sullivan,

I appreciate the distinction. It has to do with manners and professionalism. Thanks.

I believe, Ron is short for Ronald. Don't call him Wash, call him loser. I love the way "Jon Boy" has distanced himself from Wash. THIS IS DANIELS FREAKING GUY, if this manager, whatever you call him fails and is fired, the GM who handpicked him should go with him. The past is the past, but this team will rue the day when Hillman leads the Royals to the playoffs. Who is the next manager here? What is the plan? Why aren't we developing future managers in the minor leagues? God only knows we can't develop pitchers or outfielders. I can't wait for Wash to meltdown as he struggles out of the gate and is fired. It is going to happen. It is all about the pitching, starting that is of which we doth not have enough. Yeah it is sacreligious to refer to a baseball guy by his nickname probably never ever happens, Rocket, The Express, Babe, Joltin Joe, Bucky, Stan The Man, Duke, Sey Hey, "Billy", Pudge as in Carlton Fisk, Hammer, "Charlie Hustle", Ironhorse, The Bird, Mick the Quick. Doesn't seem to be a part of the fabric of the sport of baseball, not involved in its history at all!

The only thing i wish to see in three inch headlines and in proper form is: Ronald Washington, fired and/or resigned as Rangers Manager just prior to All Star break of 2008. I forgot "Tex", could you have had a better name for a baseball player in Texas than Tex, but alas he left for greener fields i mean more money and something called a "CHANCE" to win. Something MR. Michael Young will be doing soon enough. How many players have to leave before we realize it isn't the players, but the ownership? How many players can be blamed for using money as an excuse to escape this
"team". Young has his money and will be screaming soon enough that he wants a "CHANCE" just a chance, some hope of winning in his lifetime. Granted the real players want the money, but the great ones also want a chance to win. Reggie, "MR. OCTOBER" for those who know the game, was the straw that stirred the drink in NY. What type of drink and who is stirring it in Arlington? Not anything i am willing to pay or even take a sip of. Hey TR, get a new suit. Wait is that an abbreviation and is it acceptable. How about asking Wash who he handed the team over to this year. What is he going to do this year in order to save his job. Who are the team leaders?

This is something to discuss with Jamey and let him send a retract or correction. No need to call him out. Not to mention this is entirely petty.
