Tennessee Waltz, Day 1...Waiting for Fukudome

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said there's a chance they could do "a couple of smaller things" while they are at the Winter Meetings.

Not sure Japanese outfielder Kosuke Fukudome qualifies as small but the Rangers are interested and are likely to meet with his agent, Joe Urbon, while they are here in Nashville. Urbon has been in Japan the past week.

Fukudome has not yet announced if he'll come to the United States. He may stay in Japan and play for the Yomiuri Giants. But a couple of Japanese writers here say he has been impressed by the interest he has received from Major League teams and is strongly considering crossing the Pacific.

The Chicago Cubs are strong suitors but they say they aren't sure what Fukudome will do. The Rangers and the White Sox should also be interested.

One Major League official said his "gut feeling" is Fukudome could end up with the Cubs.

"I think the player will make his final decision on whether he's going to leave the country or not," Cubs GM Jim Hendry said. "I'm hopeful it will be soon. It's certainly an area where he's going to decide on his own terms, which he should. Hopefully, he'll decide to come to the states."

If Kosuke only wants to be in the US for 3 years, then my interest in him wanes, but he would still help make 2010 very intriguing.

This is a case where we need to spend too much to assure getting an assuredly good thing.

Jim Colborn and Aki can help us get him to buy into our hopes to contend for the last 3 years of Kosuke's 5-year contract for 60 million.

If he turns out to be worth only 39 million, consider the extra 21-million paid by A-Rod.

I think what JD meant to say was, "all we are going to do is a couple of smaller things"

LET'S GO!

Please, give me a reason to renew my seats. PLEASE!!!!
