Borbon does not signs....
The Rangers have not agreed to terms with University of Tennessee outfielder Julio Borbon. With Neil Ramirez agreeing to terms earlier in the day, the Rangers were able to sign six of their top seven draft picks from the First-Year Player Draft. The next highest non-signed pick was fourth rounder Garrett Nash, a high school outfielder from Utah who is going to Oregon State.

In relation to Pedro? Rangers announce to the world that they don't like the way Boras negotiates. Rangers draft Boras client anyway. If you were going to draft someone then you should have drafted Porcello a pitcher. Hopefully this put us over the edge. Don't draft or sign Boras's clients. Don't allow Boras to use us to drive up the salary of his free agent clients. Collude against the guy. He probably advised the guy not to sign here anyway. Wait that makes him an astute person.

T.R.,
If Evan Grant is right, then so is your title on this article: Borbon doesn't sign, and yet signs!
Cheers,

Dwidregod, how could we have used the Borbon pick on Porcello? Porcello was long gone by that time.
In any event, it doesn't matter, because it appears that Borbon did indeed sign.

Apparently, Borbon will indeed be a Ranger (according to BA and DMN's Evan Grant). The catch is that the Rangers will have to keep a roster spot open for him throughout his tenure with the Rangers. He didn't sign for much ($800 000) when you compare his major league contract to those of Andrew Brackman and Rick Porcello. It seems that the ankle injury cost him some money. Also, had he re-entered the draft next year and come out as a senior, he wouldn't have had much leverage in negotiations.
Even better news, the Angels couldn't sign Matt Harvey (another top-ranked HS pitcher).

I was making this point. Porcello and Borbon were Boras clients and we could have drafted him, Porcello with either of the first two, first round picks. They meaning Rangers "Management" said they couldn't draft Porcello because he was a Boras client. They then turn around with the last of the third first rounder and pick Borbon a Boras client. Which is it. Porcello was rated as the # 2 player in the draft. You don't pass on that guy just because he wants to get paid. Besides, the monetary differnce in Porcello and Beavers contract is $475,000, chump change and around the major league minimum. We aren't going to do anything around here until we get some pitching and i believe we are going to have to pay for it whether it is through player development or free-agency. If we ever develop a stud pitcher we are going to have to pay to keep him. riega does the unt, stand for University of North Texas and are you a professor? If so then, those who can do, those who can't, teach. Have a nice day. P.S. Your football team looks like Southlake Carroll North. Unfortunately, i doubt if they will do as well up there. Having to be on a level playing field and all.

Let's get it right:
Blake Beavan's signing bonus: $ 1.5 million
Rick Porcello's signing bonus: $ 3.58 million
I'm a math major at UNT but it doesn't take that to figure out that the difference in signing bonuses is $ 2.08 million.
Also, unlike Beavan and Main, Rick Porcello got a major league contract. Meaning that he has to be added to the Tigers' 40-man roster (and he has). Even more important, the clock is already ticking on Porcello's options.
I'll be honest with you, I'd rather have Porcello than Main or Borbon. But giving a major league contract to a high school pitcher and expect him to make the team in 3 to 4 years (due to the fixed number of options) is kind of risky. Injuries and ineffectiveness happen. Borbon's case is different since he's already 21 and has excelled at the college level, a more competitive league than high school (like your post scriptum implies).

So the risk would be $520,000 a year for 4 years. It is a risk that i would take. It is a risk they should have taken. Hicks probably makes more than that on Beer sales when people go to the park, or the $12.00 parking or the Texiera jerseys, oh those are 1/2 price. Poor Tommy Hicks. He spends more than that on A-Rod and other players that don't play for us. Are you going to be a teacher, riega? If so good for you. I sure hope you plan to teach at the college level, these public schools are rough.

Oh by the way, how many people are going out there now. On TV it looks bleak, dim. Looks like about 50 people are out there. Does that mean i could buy a 6 dollar seat and sit in the Lexus Club? Looks like the Rangers are re-naming the Lexus Club to the Hyundai Hybrid Club. Lexus pulled out. Their will be no leather seats, no air conditioning or windows in the club.

You should read Mike Hindman's latest blog entry. You'll probably get a kick out of that. The guy always writes great stuff.

Here is how Porcello's contract is structured according to Baseball America.
http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=208
"Porcello’s bonus was $3.58 million (that's the money he gets rightaway). He’ll receive major league salaries of $95,000 (prorated from $380,000) in 2007, $1.1 million in 2008, $1.2 million in 2009 and $1.025 million in 2010. The Tigers also have club options for $1.536 million in 2011 and $1.344 million in 2012. "
Beavan gets his $1.5 million upfront and won't be making a third of what Porcello will make while in the minors. (major league minimum is $380 000 so the minor league salary is probably very much south of that figure)
Money shouldn't be an issue as much as the options. If by the start of the 2011 season, Porcello isn't ready, then they'll either have to keep him on the active roster (and have him struggle and not pitching as frequently as he'd need in order to develop) or run him through waivers hoping nobody claims him.

And for all those reasons, dwidregod, is why you didn't make it in professional sports management. Stick to your day job, please. My lawn needs to be mowed.

rsullivan, the last time i checked Police Officers don't mow lawns, they arrest the people you employ to mow yours. By the way that will soon be against the law, so you will have to prove up a work visa in order for you to be able to employ an alien. Also the rift with you an me could be because you are from Southlake, Texas a city that was in personal bankruptcy about 10 years ago, and was begging the City of Grapevine to merge. Well the City of Grapevine said no. Bye the way, the City of Grapevine has far more wealth than the city of southlake that likes to flaunt its personal wealth and thinks they hung the moon. Also i believe they have an unfair advantage over there in Southlake, with their football team. About 4 years ago, the city was told by UIL to build another school because of the amount of students. Well did they build another High School, no they built a 9th and 10th grade student center, in order to increase the football player pool. Cheating in my book.

And yes, i do have a B.B.A in Management from the University of Texas, graduated in 1992. Yes, Hickey and I are Longhorns. He has done great things in Austin, with all of his endowments. I never was really interested in Sports Management. Maybe, i could get a job over there as an advisor. Something along the lines of what Hart is doing and has done. Wouldn't be hard to do. Could i do any worse? I am not sure they would like me over there. You know with my concern about winning and wanting to do everything first class. My dollar hot dogs night would be the same hot dogs that i charge $4.00 for on other nights. Free parking for everyone! Dollar beer for everyone. Also, i would implement, the perpetual t-shirt deal. When we trade the best, like Texiera, and you have already purchased his jersey or t-shirt, you could turn that jersey or t-shirt in and receive say a Salty one, when Salty left you could turn that in and receive a free one. We would be financially losing our butts and this would force Hickey to keep his players. In fact it would cost more in time and money for any player to leave. Which is the realitiy to begin with!

degod I notice you use the "I"
word a lot, you must have been a real team player. I do not know what they teach at ut but I'll bet they do not teach some of the ideas that you come up with. Everything has to be paid for and you can not give things away. It is easy to spend someone elses money.
The only thing you said I agree with is DO NOT SIGN THE HIGH PRICE FREE AGENTS. Sign Byrd as at least he shows a little emotion when he does bad. When you have a player make a mistake at least show that you are unhappy with yourself. Play Salty at catcher as he is going to make a lot of errors because he is trying to prove that the trade was good for the Rangers.
Blame a-rod for Pudge not being here now as he got all the money. When a player gets that kind of money then what does he expect if the team is unable to add better players because he is getting more than his share. The players need to think about that when they get that kind of money. I know a-rod didn't.
Let's put a name to all of this. GREED. That is what it is all about. Until we get players like Rust Greer who want to be a Texas Ranger and want to see the team win then the money is always going to move players around. When Bleven was drafted all he talked about was playing but then the $$$ poped up and then all things changed. Rusty could have gone some where else for more money but like he was quoted" how much is enough?"
On boras you need to draft the players he reps then don't sign them. Then the next wear draft them again if they come your way and do the same way again and don't sign them again unless it is under your terms. Do this a couple of times them borus will have less players. Surely someone in management is smart enough to do that.
