The Rangers have scratched pitcher Kameron Loe from Thursday's start because of neck and back spasms. Mike Wood will pitch instead. This could be a set back in Loe's chances to be the fifth starter but the Rangers are hoping it's not serious.
I want to see Kam Loe make the rotation. I am tired of having the token journeyman the rangers pick up every year make the rotation because he has a good spring. Good springs can be an evaluator but i think these young guys need a shot and Loe has done nothing not to deserve it.
I think Loe is a darned good pitcher, and imposing on the mound with his long legs and stirrup socks. BUT, he has to develop something besides the sinker. He's been wonderful through the lineup once, but twice and the third time, he is no mystery. I'd give him a shot in the rotation--provided Mark Connor signs off on it. I think Connor can corral Loe and work with him on his out pitch. Otherwise, I have no problem with Loe as the 5th starter--IF Chen or Wright hasn't already been beaten out.
Sorry, but I'll get excited about Jamey Wright when he shows us he can win in the big leagues. He's had eight seasons in his career where he's had 20 or more starts and he's still looking for his first winning season.
I hold out a little more hope for Chen because (1) he's left-handed, and (2) two years ago he went 13-10 with a fine 3.83 ERA.
If we can keep only one, I'd go with Chen.
But, that said, if Loe is healthy, he's won the fifth starter's spot in my mind.
