Desert ball...the Wright stuff
At the Elysian Fields, no piece of trivia is too small to be overlooked...
Which active right-handed pitcher has the most career pickoffs?
That would be Jamey Wright, who is in Rangers camp on a Minor League contract.
Wright has 52 career pickoffs, which is nine more than Roger Clemens among right-handers who pitched last year.
"I also tell people that I've had more people on first base than Roger Clemens," Wright said. "When you put a lot of people on first base, you get more chances to pick people off."
Kenny Rogers is the overall leader among active pitchers with 84.
Wright is also eight among active pitchers with 114 hit batters and led the National League twice in 2000-01.
"I like to pitch inside," Wright said. "I have a good sinker and I like to throw it in on guys hands. I've led the league a few times but that happens. It's a big part of my game."
