Washington is new manager
Ron Washington is the Rangers new manager.

Washington will be named the 17th full-time manager in Rangers history, replacing Buck Showalter who was fired at the end of the season.

Washington is expected to be introduced as the new manager on Monday at a press conference. He interviewed with Rangers owner Tom Hicks on Sunday and was "very impressive" according to club sources.

Washington has also interviewed with the Athletics for their managerial opening. He has been on their coaching staff for 11 years and managed two years in the Minor Leagues before that.

I think having Ron Washington as the manager is a bad move. I think the Rangers should have chosen Hillman for the job. I believe that this choice is going to come back and bite them in the butt. Look for Hillman to sign with the Padres or Oakland and take them to where Texas has been unable to go these past years

Eh Rapture... no matter who they would have hired, there'd be some small reason to say "it was a bad move". I don't see this as a bad move at all. You have to hire someone. You can't hire all three of them.
This is fine.

Personally I love the move. Why not take someone away from a division rival? Washington is very well respected around baseball and he has a lot of energy and baseball knowledge. Players love him and he will give a needed lift to the clubhouse. Now that the Rangers have a new coach its time to start the offseason. Why not grab Zito and trade for texas native Vernon Wells?

I am glad the Rangers chose Ron Washington as their new manager. He has coached perennial winners and let us hope he can teach us how winning feels again. He can certainly teach defense and we know that's half of the formula.
Maybe someday we will be able to form a haiku of success with number 17.

Being a third base coach for a perennial winner is a whole different story from managing one. The only managing experience I saw was in class A ball 12 years ago and he went 123-153. But, hey, I wish him the best!
Will Don Wakamatsu remain with the club or will Washington bring in his own staff?
