Josh Hamilton coming Tuesday…so is Joey Gallo
SAN DIEGO – The Rangers are planning to activate outfielder Josh Hamilton off the disabled list when rosters are expanded on Tuesday.
Catcher Carlos Corporan is also being activated off the disabled list. The Rangers are also calling up four players: third baseman Joey Gallo, outfielder Drew Stubbs and pitchers Luke Jackson and Ross Ohlendorf.
Tuesday is the first day that rosters can be expanded to up to 40 players. The Rangers may call up other players later in the month as needed or once Triple A Round Rock is done with Pacific Coast League playoffs.
Hamilton has not played since Aug. 15 because of a sore left knee. It’s unlikely that Hamilton will be ready to play left field but he could be used as a pinch-hitter.
Corporan has been sidelined since July 13 with a bruised left thumb and will likely be used as the Rangers third catcher behind Chris Gimenez and Bobby Wilson.
This will be Gallo’s second time with the Rangers. He was with them in June and hit .218 with five home runs, 13 RBI and a .448 slugging percentage in 25 games. Since then he has played in 53 games at Triple A Round Rock and hit .195 with 14 home runs, 32 RBI, a .450 slugging percentage and 90 strikeouts in 200 at-bats.
