Rangers option Leonys Martin

The Rangers announced Tuesday they have optioned center fielder Leonys Martin to Triple-A Round Rock. They also purchased the contract of Round Rock outfielder Ryan Strausborger.

Martin, once the Rangers’ everyday center fielder, has hit .220 with five home runs and 25 RBIs this season.

Strausborger hit .278 with 10 home runs and 34 RBIs in 86 games in Triple-A. He also has 27 steals, third-most in the Pacific Coast League. He gives the Rangers a needed right-handed bat, and he hit .306 against left-handed pitchers with Round Rock.

The Rangers also placed left-handed pitcher Wandy Rodriguez on unconditional release waivers. Rodriguez was designated for assignment on July 29.

Martin sent down; Scheppers sent down. Maybe it’s all about the bottom line of performance, no matter what the money involved. Are you listening, Andrus?
