Rangers trade talks: Rodriguez, Corporan, Hamels
As the Rangers get ready for the second half, there are two weeks to go before the July 31 Trade Deadline…
There appears to be no traction between the Rangers and the Phillies as far as Cole Hamels. The Rangers like the pitcher but not the contract or the asking price as far as prospects. Said one Rangers source, “If we were going to do that trade, we would have already done it by now.”
The Rangers have found there is some interest in left-handed pitcher Wandy Rodriguez, who starts on Monday against Colorado. Clubs have told the Rangers that Rodriguez could be a fallback option if they are unable to land a bigger name starting pitcher in a trade.
If the Rangers move Rodriguez, it would allow them to bring back Nick Martinez or Chi Chi Gonzalez
Clubs are looking for catching. The Rangers are open to moving Carlos Corporan and bringing up Tomas Telis.
Yovani Gallardo is a free agent after the season. The Rangers will likely wait until right up to the Trade Deadline before they decide if they will make him available. The Rangers won’t want to move him if they feel they are still in the race.
Derek Holland throws a bullpen session on Saturday and could throw live batting practice in Colorado. The next step could be a rehab assignment.
Matt Harrison is throwing live BP in Houston on Thursday evening. He is scheduled to start Tuesday in Colorado.
