Profar dealing with tendinitis; Cruz, Moreland, Daniels updates

Infielder Jurickson Profar is dealing with tendinitis in his right shoulder and will be behind the rest of the infielders when Spring Training starts. He’ll need at least a week to get back to a throwing program. Rangers still expect him to be their starting second baseman.

General manager Jon Daniels said he has remained in contact with Nelson Cruz’s agent but still expects him to sign elsewhere. Rangers aren’t expected to sign another right-handed bat, according to Daniels

Daniels declined to comment on reports the Rangers have signed pitcher Tommy Hanson. The Rangers are likely waiting until later this week when they can put Derek Holland on the 60-day DL and open a 40-man roster spot for him.

Daniels is hopefully they can avoid an arbitration hearing with Mitch Moreland. He said they are getting close. THe hearing is Feb. 19.

Reliever Ben Rowen is dealing with biceps tendinitis and will be behind other pitchers in camp.

Definitely not good news for Profar. He still needs to earn the position, and if someone gets ahead and performs then so be it. Taking care of yourself is part of the deal. Not a good sign.

A possibility … Moreland playing in left field, with Choo or Choice in center if the incumbent center fielder doesn’t work out.
