Boras on Choo
Rangers officials are saying they can’t afford free agent outfielder Shin-Soo Choo. His agent, Scott Boras, has met with the Rangers and doesn’t sound convinced Texas is backing off.
Boras said when clubs meet with him, it’s because they are trying to find out, “how they can acquire the player.”
Boras said clubs are looking Choo as being a “franchise talent.”
Said Boras: “Choo offers 20 home run power, a .400 on-base percentage and when you get in those spheres, I think over the last two years, there are only like 10 players who achieved something like that. And then we add in he can steal 20 bases. So I think every franchise is looking at Choo is that he is someone who can add to those types of players but is a guy who certainly has franchise talent. He’s earned the respect of his teammates and his league. He came here and spent a lot of time in the Minor Leagues working his way. He’s a very devoted player. And during his brief playoff time, he hit a home run off a very good left-hander. He played well. So I think he’s a player who is really revered. So I don’t think teams bar. They make movements and do things but I think Choo is independent of most moves they make.”
