Maddux not being sought as managerial candidate

Last year the Cubs and the Red Sox had interest in Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux. He interviewed with Cubs but declined to do so with the Red Sox. So far this month teams have not contacted the Rangers for permission to speak with Maddux. The Marlins, Blue Jays and Rockies are all looking for managers.

Maddux addressed his situation at the end of the season, saying, “I’m happy as the Rangers pitching coach, and I think this season is more about the Rangers and what the players did than about me. I think we got a lot of things to look forward to next year, that’s for darn sure.”

The Rangers hired Dave Magadan as hitting coach but have not made any formal announcements on the rest of the coaching staff.
