Mark Lowe activated, Alberto Gonzalez designated for assignment
After five rehab outings, reliever Mark Lowe will return to the Rangers on Friday while reserve middle infielder Alberto Gonzalez has been designated for assignment.
Lowe gave up four runs in four innings during his first three rehab appearances, all with Double-A Frisco, before pitching one scoreless inning for Triple-A Round Rock on Monday and Tuesday. He last pitched June 25 and has been on the 15-day disabled list since June 29. In 26 appearances, Lowe struck out 25 and walked eight in 31 1/3 innings while posting a 2.30 ERA.
Gonzalez batted .241 with four RBIs in 24 games with the Rangers this season, playing in only six games since the beginning of June. He last played Aug. 5 in a loss to the Royals, when he replaced an injured Elvis Andrus at shortstop and committed an error in the 10th inning that led to Kansas City scoring the go-ahead run.
