Rangers pick RHP Ryan Harvey in 18th round
The Rangers picked Seton Hall right-handed pitcher Ryan Harvey in the 17th round with the No. 576 overall pick.
Harvey went 6-4 with a 3.04 ERA and two saves in 17 appearances, including 10 starts, striking out 90 and walking 43 over 77 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .231 batting average last season. He served as the team’s closer in 2011, posting a 5-2 record and 2.62 ERA while recording seven saves.
A native of Manalapan, New Jersey, Harvey becomes the ninth pitcher taken by the Rangers in this year’s draft, all but one of which have been right-handed. University of Texas southpaw Sam Stafford is the lone lefty the Rangers have picked.
