Rangers take RHP Joseph Shiver in 10th round
The Rangers selected Southern Polytechnic State (Ga.) pitcher Joseph Shiver in the 10th round with the No. 336 overall pick.
Shiver went 9-4 with a 3.17 ERA over 102 1/3 innings as a junior this season. He spent his first two years in college at Gordon College in Barnesville, Ga. There, Shiver went 4-3 with a 2.63 ERA and four saves, striking out 43 in 37 2/3 innings as a freshman. He posted a 6-4 record with a 3.56 ERA, striking out 71 in 65 2/3 innings as a sophomore.
Shiver, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound right-hander, became the eighth straight college player to be taken by the Rangers, who selected five consecutive high school players to begin this year’s draft.
