Rangers pick OF Kwinton Smith in the 14th round
The Rangers selected Dillon High School outfielder Kwinton Smith with the No. 456 overall pick in the 14th round.
Smith is currently committed to play for Steve Spurrier as a wide receiver at the University of South Carolina in the fall. He turned down offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Illinois, LSU, Notre Dame, and Virginia Tech, among others.
As a junior, Smith caught 42 passes for 809 yards and 15 touchdowns while batting .475 with six home runs for the school’s baseball team. He broke a string of 11 college players in a row taken by the Rangers, who had not selected a high school player since the second round.
