Third baseman Adrian Beltre’s MRI showed only a mild strain of the left hamstring and no tear. He is officially listed as day-to-day but was not in the lineup on Monday night. Michael Young started at third base with Brandon Snyder at designated hitter.
Rangers pitcher Justin Miller has a torn ligament in his right elbow that will require Tommy John reconstruction surgery and will sideline him for at least a year. Miller was with the Rangers in Spring Training and was optioned to Triple A Round Rock. But he has not yet pitched in a game.
“It was a one-time thing,” farm director Tim Purpura said. “He had some pain, we had it looked at and found it was torn. There was no knowledge beforehand there was anything wrong. It’s regrettable.
The Rangers released Miller in order to make room on the 40-man rroster. Purpura said the Rangers intend on re-signing him at some point. Miller was a 16th round pick for the Rangers in 2008 out of Fresno State and was 9-1 with a 1.81 ERA in 48 games at Double A Frisco last season.
