Morning Nine from Surprise…actually afternoon from Salt River

Quick hits while waiting for Yu Darvish…

1. Mike Adams pitched a scoreless inning in an intrasquad game Friday morning in Surprise. Gave up an infield hit and struck out two.

2. Yorvit Torrealba is starting at designated hitter on Friday night. The Rockies are letting the Rangers use the DH so Yu Darvish won’t get to hit.

3. Craig Gentry is starting in left field. The Rangers are doing everything they can to get him ready for the regular season. They understand he fits better on the roster than Julio Borbon because he hits right-handed.

4. One Rangers official said Minor League pitcher Cody Buckel looks like he has been pitching in the Major Leagues for 15 years.

5. Rangers are setting their Minor League rosters and it looks like Jurickson Profar is going to jump past Myrtle Beach and start in Double A. He’ll be in an infield with Mike Olt and Leury Garcia at Frisco.

6. Nelson Cruz and Elvis Andrus are both back in the lineup for the Rangers on Friday night.

7. Robbie Ross and Tanner Scheppers are scheduled to follow Darvish to the mound.

8. The Rangers are still having conversations with Ian Kinsler’s agent Jay Franklin but he is the only one as Spring Training comes to an end.

9. One week to go: forecast for Opening Day in Arlington is 79 degrees and sunshine.

Thank you, TR – love reading your updates!

Just curious… do the Japanese use a DH? If not, how are Darvish’s hitting stats?

He was not much of a hitter from what I heard but not sure the numbers….something like 5-for-33
