Rangers open against White Sox

The Rangers will open the 2012 season at home against the White Sox at the Ballpark in Arlington.

Opening Day for the Rangers has been scheduled for April 6 according to the 2012 Major League schedule released on Wednesday. Game times have not been set but the Rangers will open on a Friday for a three-game series with the White Sox. The Mariners follow the White Sox for a four-game series to complete the first homestand of the 2012 season.

Other highlights of the schedule include visits by the Diamondbacks and the Rockies for Interleague Play. The Rangers will also face the Giants and the Padres on the road during Interleague Play.

The Rangers will renew their Lone Stat Series rivalry with the Astros on May 18-20 at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The Astros will then come to Arlington for a weekend series on June 15-17. The Rangers have won the Silver Boot Trophy five straight seasons.

The Rangers and the Giants will face each other on June 8-10 at AT&T Park in San Francisco. This will be their first regular season meeting since the 2010 World Series but also involves the two teams that played the first Interleague game back in 1997.

The Diamondback will be at the Ballpark in Arlington on June 12-14. This will be their fifth Interleague visit to Arlington and first since 2006. The Rangers played in Arizona in 2009 and are 15-7 overall against the Diamondbacks since Interleague Play began in 1997.

The Rangers will be making their first trip to San Diego since 2001. They play the Padres on June 18-20 at Petco Park.

The Rockies are here June 22-24. This will be their first trip to Arlington since 2001. The two teams haven’t played each other since 2006 and the Rangers are 9-10 against the Rockies.

The home schedule also includes one trip in each for the Yankees and the Red Sox. The Yankees are at the Ballpark on April 23-25 and the Red Sox are here on July 23-25. The Rangers make two trips to Boston and just one to New York for a four-game series on Aug. 13-16 at Yankee Stadium.

The Rangers end the season with a three-game series with the Athletics on Oct. 1-3 in Oakland.
