Ogando in the rotation

The trade of Matt Treanor to the Royals means:

Alexi Ogando will be in the rotation.

The Rangers will go with eight relievers. They traded Treanor to give them an extra arm in the bullpen to make up for Ogando’s absence.

Mark Lowe and Mason Tobin, the Rule 5 Draft pick, will be in the bullpen.

There is one spot left in the bullpen. It will likely come down to Brett Tomko or Pedro Strop.

Chris Davis will likely start the season at Triple A Round Rock. The Rangers need the extra pitcher.

With Mike Napoli needed as the second catcher, first baseman Mitch Moreland could be seeing more time than expected against left-handed pitching

Can’t say I’m surprised about Treanor. If I were a team that needed catching and the Rangers offerred Teagarden I would have asked about Treanor.

By the way this is a test for the rest of you guys out there….they’ve changed everything around….the new sign in is cumbersome.

I definitely think the Rangers should go with Strop over Tomko for the final spot. Strop has looked sharp, much sharper than Tomko. Plus, there is no pressing need to add Tomko right now, as was the case for Dave Bush.

I like what I have seen from Strop this spring. Having his buddies Feliz and Ogando with him could really help him rise. Not to take anything away from Tomko. He will make a nice insurance policy at AAA.
