Webb taken off mound

The Rangers have decided not to let Brandon Webb throw off a mound until he builds up more arm strength. That could put him in doubt for the beginning of the season but the Rangers won’t know until later in the spring.

“It’s a variable in our schedule,” pitching coach Mike Maddux said. “Spring training works backwards from Opening Day. If you stay on schedule, you kind of build up for Opening Day. But it may, it may. He might be late. We’ve also had guys who started off a week late and threw them in the fifth starter spot with a day off and they don’t miss a beat.”

Webb has missed most of the past two seasons because of a shoulder injury. He threw off the mound on Thursday but the Rangers decided to wait before does that again.
