Lee sent back to Arlington have back examined
Pitcher Cliff Lee was sent back to Arlington to be examined by Dr. Keith Meister. Lee complained of some stiffness in his lower back after Tuesday’s 10-9 loss to the Royals on Tuesday.
Meister gave him an injection to relieve some pain and inflammation. He is scheduled to start on Monday against the Blue Jays and the Rangers still expect him to make that start. But the Rangers won’t know for sure until he throws his side bullpen session in Minnesota this weekend.
Lee will rejoin the Rangers on Friday in Minnesota.
Lee now has an 8.28 ERA in his last five starts. In 291/3 innings, he has allowed 30 runs – 27 earned – on 44 hits while walking just three.
Josh Hamilton is out of the lineup on Wednesday but reported improvement in his sore right knee. He expects to play on Friday.
Manager Ron Washington said that Jeff Francoeur, acquired on Tuesday from the Mets, will be his right fielder against left-handed pitching. David Murphy and Julio Borbon will share time against right-handers. Hamilton and Nelson Cruz will be out there every day.
Ian Kinsler was activated off the disabled list. He will start on Friday. He will also bat sixth. He was batting third before the injury.
