Cruz for Boggs; Gentry recalled

The Rangers have activated outfielder Nelson Cruz off the disabled list and optioned outfielder Brandon Boggs to Triple A Oklahoma City. They have also recalled outfielder Craig Gentry and placed him on the 15-day disabled list. He is sidelined with a broken wrist.

Cruz has been sidelined with a strained left hamstring since Aug. 16. He is hitting .320 with 16 home runs and 64 RBI in 77 games and 281 at-bats.

Gentry would have been called up instead of Boggs if not for the broken wrist. Rangers say it’s “possible but unlikely” that he could help them at some point before the season is over.

Cruz has been on the disabled list three times this season. In his last 162 games, going back to May 26, 2009, he is hitting .280 with 89 runs scored, 33 doubles, 37 home runs, 108 RBI, a .353 on-base percentage and a .540 slugging percentage.

I really hate that for Boggs–the poor guy hardly got a chance. I’m guessing he will just wait to report till September 1st when the roster expands (and not even go to OKC). Lets hope he gets a second nod to come back!
