Rangers claim Ramirez but another team gets him

The Rangers put in a waiver claim on Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez but lost him to another team. An industry source said it was the White Sox.

The Rangers were pushing hard for Ramirez as a right-handed bat and it once again shows that the new ownership group headed by Chuck Greenberg is willing to spend money aggressively in pursuit of a World Series title.

The Dodgers put Ramirez on waivers earlier this week. Any team with a worse record than the Rangers has a priority when it comes to claiming him. The White Sox are below the Rangers and have priority.

The Dodgers can either work out a trade, let the claiming team pick up Ramirez’s $4 million salary or they can pull him back. They have until Tuesday.

The Rangers were willing to take on that salary but did not have the priority claim

Thank God for the Rangers they did not get Ramirez. To bad for the White Sox. The Rangers did not need a player who will play only when he “feels like it.” They need team players, not selfish ones like Ramirez. I would cease being a Ranger fan and I would hope they never won a World Series or made the playoffs, if Ramirez was with them.

who said prayers were never answered,ty Lord

A major positive here is the fact that the Rangers are serious about spending money if they want to. That is great! Manny would have been ok to have but he does bring attitude. If he came and played great, would have been nice. If he came and stank, would have been a disaster. I trust Rangers management to do what is best for the team. Nolan Ryan is smarter than any of us commenting here.

I was against Ramirez coming to Tx. before, and even more so now; I’d rather lose with the caliber of players currently on the roster that have the heart and play for the love of the game without ‘roids or HGH, than to sell the soul of the franchise for a trophy, albeit a World Championship. Give me a bunch of Pearland youngsters over Manny, Alex, Bonds, etc. If Manny comes, there’ll be two seats available next year because this Season Ticket holder will probably be at Minor League games. ‘Nuf said.

Are you two kidding me? The Rangers have been the petri dish of steroids in baseball. Palmeiro, A-Rod, Pudge, Kevin Brown, David Segui, Juan Gonzales, Caminiti…

Please guys. Don’t be “holier-than-thou.” Keep your season tickets and cheer on Big Mike Young and the other young guys.

Rangerfan and Bossman, I’m with you. We don’t need Ramirez. I think it could poison the clubhouse (which has generally had pretty good team chemistry).

Some of our late trades don’t seem to be that good anyway. Blanco seems better than Guzman, and I’ll take Treanor over Molina. So why keep screwing around? As soon as Cruz and Kinsler return, we should be in good shape.

I am very glad we didnt pick up manny but i like the idea that the new owners are very willing and aggessive to pick up big names that could potentially help out the team with a very small thought on how much money it would cost us. and if we are going to continue to look for one more big right handed bat to solidify our line up completely and the only place to do that is the outfield why not persue such players as Matt Kemp(LAD), Carlos Lee(HOU), Torii Hunter(LAA) even. that would be nice bats to pick up and not a huge lose defensivly like manny would have been. other names to throw into the mix would be guys like Jayson Werth(PHI) since the phillies were unhappy with him earlier in the season and even Bobby Abreu(LAA)

The Dodgers would ask a king’s ransom form Kemp and rightly so. Hunter isn’t going to a divisional rival and while Lee might not be hard to pry away, he is owed a ton of money and declining fast.

we already established money isnt an issue. and yeah both Kemp and Hunter are long shots but the angels have already moved Hunter out of centerfield for good to make room for their young talent, and if we can give him an everyday starting centerfield job for a 1st place team going into the post season, that sounds like a pretty appealing situation to put oneself in. then its just a matter of figureing out the details and id pay a kings ransom for kemp and id pay top dollar for hunter. either of those guys would make our outfield better both offensively and defensively, Josh Hamilton-Leftfield. Torii Hunter/Matt Kemp-Centerfield. Nelson Cruz-Rightfield…. talk about unstoppable. and to address the great chemistry in the clubhouse both those guys would fit in wonderfully in our clubhouse.

If the Rangers are serious about doing some damage in the playoffs then we desperately need another right handed power bat. Not sure that Manny is that guy, but for $4 million he is worth the risk. So is Manny DH and Vlad Right fielder? If that happens? We also better start playing small ball as in sacrificing and advancing runners, because when we get to the playoffs, runs will be harder to come by. Newsflash Ranger fans the other playoff teams have strong pitching or they wouldn’t be playoff teams. P.S. does anyone else remember Nostra predicting Wilson would make a good starter? It is about winning ball games folks it aint about team chemistry. I would love for the Rangers to win a World Series within months of Hicks selling the team.

I remember you saying the Rangers would regret cutting Kason Gabbard loose….
