Rangers call up Alex Cora. Designate Joaquin Arias for assignment

The Rangers have called up infielder Alex Cora from Triple A Oklahoma City. To make room for him, infielder Joaquin Arias has been designated for assignment.

Cora was released by the Mets earlier this season and signed by the Rangers last week to a Triple A Oklahoma City contract. He played in six games at Oklahoma City and was hitting .182 with four hits in 22 at-bats. He was hitting .207 for the Mets at the time he was released.

Arias was hitting .276 in 50 games this season for the Rangers. They have ten days to release him, trade him or get him through outright waivers.

it’s about time. Arias has worn his welcome here. Good luck and good ridance

Amen. Sometimes you just have to admit a guy you traded for or a minor leaguer you want to hit it…just can’t do it. I’m afraid though he’s going to clear waivers and we’ll have to live with him again!

It never ceased to amaze me how such a limited player kept a roster spot so long. Best of luck.

Great… Mario Mendoza’s cousin. So, a .182 to .207 bat to carry? I think I’d lean on Cantu more. Guzman soon to return, was hurt when he got here. He couldn’t bend over for a grounder, nor swing the bat like he’s more than capable. Joey Cora’s kid? I hated those ChiSox back in the day… black shorts, Ha! Cora, really?
