Kinsler on the disabled list. Mitch Moreland recalled
Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler is headed to the disabled list with a strained left groin.
As a result, the Rangers have called up Mitch Moreland from Triple-A Oklahoma City for the time being.
The former Mississippi State standout, who the Rangers took in the 17th round of 2007 Draft, is hitting .289 with 12 homers and 65 RBI for the RedHawks this season.
In order to make room for Moreland, the Rangers put reliever Mark Lowe – who came over from Seattle in the trade for Cliff Lee – on the 60-day disabled list.
Infielder Andres Blanco has been the primary backup at second base and played there Wednesday night in Kinsler’s absence. He’s hitting .257 with no home runs and three RBI in 70 at-bats this season. Unless the Rangers can make a deal for Orioles infielder Ty Wigginton, he’ll remain there.
Kinsler, who started the season on the disabled list with a high ankle sprain, is hitting .298 with six home runs and 38 RBI in 292 at-bats.
