Nippert signs as well…Scheppers, Smoak coming to camp
The Rangers have also avoided arbitration with Dustin Nippert, who is represented by Scott Boras. He agreed to a one-year deal on Friday. That leaves five players left unsigned who are eligible for arbitration.
Nippert agreed to $665,000 base salary.
The Rangers have also announced that six Minor Leaguers have been invited to camp: first baseman Justin Smoak, first base/outfielder Chad Tracy, outfielder Mitch Moreland, pitcher Kasey Kiker, catcher Emerson Frostad and pitcher Tanner Scheppers.
Kiker, a left-hander, was the Rangers No. 1 draft pick out of high school in 2006. Smoak was the No. 1 pick in 2008 and was in camp last year. Scheppers was taken in the supplemental first round in June.
