Rangers working on Colby Lewis deal

The Rangers have been working hard on a two-year deal with pitcher Colby Lewis.

Here is where it stands…

* The Rangers have significant interest and they have been talking with his agents.

* Lewis, who spent the past two years pitching in Japan, has expressed a desire to return to the Rangers. He was the top pick in 1999 and pitched for them in 2002-04.

* The two sides have a general understanding of the parameters of a deal.

* The Rangers have no room on the 40-man roster. They are in no position to announce any signings right now.

* The Rangers also have a pending one-year agreement on a Major League contract with shortstop Khalil Greene. That deal remains pending until the Rangers can make room on the 40-man roster.

* The Rangers would have to drop two players if they added both Greene and Lewis.

Excellent move on Daniels part. Now go get ben Sheets also and we should be through other than making some trades to free up 40-man Roster Spots.

What about this T.R.?

Short hops:

1. Someone ask Mike Maddux what he thinks about all the new pitcher acquisitions and the loss of Kevin Milwood, plus does he think Daniels will go get Ben Sheets still?

2. What about asking new hitting coach Clint hurdle what it means to him to have Guerrero in the line up, and has he seen Salty hitting lately?

3. How about asking Ron Washington to give us his line up shuffle, including three or four batting orders, that will keep everyone fresh, on-their-game, and ultimately happy. Is Kinsler really dropping to fifth?

4. Can anyone find out if they really are considering David Murphy as a backup at first base, or is there something else being considered? Does Justin Smoak get any kind of a look this year?

5. I would even like to hear bench coach Jackie Moore’s take on what Vlad Guerrero and Rich Harden mean to the line up. How much better does he think the Rangers are now with all the moves?

Who have we got on the 40 that has options left? Otherwise we’re going to see a trade this weekend or a couple of releases.
