Rangers have signed Vladimir Guerrero

The Rangers have reached an agreement outfielder Vladimir Guerrero on what is believed to be a one-year contract, with an option for 2011, according to a source. He will be the Rangers righthanded designated hitter. Guerrero, 35, hit .295 with 15 home runs and 50 RBI last season.

Now, that looks like a playoff caliber box score!!! Welcome Vlady!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks excellent on paper. IF we can sign Ben Sheets, I think we could move on up from 2nd position in the West….HOWEVER, T.R. can you please tell us what the status is of the budget for this year? If Greenberg or Hicks or someone can please come forward and get Ben Sheets signed, WOW.

I think we’d be sitting pretty. Salty still concerns me, regardless of a medical clearance to play. I’d still feel better with a journeyman catcher–don’t think Taylor can hit enough to put in the most time at backstop.

Go Rangers!

I agree we need to find the necessary funds to sign Ben Sheets, or Chin Ming Wang might be another option. We need at least one more upper tier veteran starting pitcher to seriously compete for the Division. Seattle has added Cliff Lee, and beefed up their line up. We need to do likewise by pursuing either Sheets or Wang. The Rangers need to move and get one of these pitchers signed before another team comes in and takes them out from under us at the last minute, like the Angels did with Torri Hunter a couple of years back when Texas needed a center fielder.

I have been on the Sheets bandwagon since he became a free agent last season. However, I just don’t see it happening in Texas. Everything we are hearing says that he is wanting money as if he were completly healthy, and if the Rangers just used roughly $6million on Green and Vlad then that leaves about a million left for a backup catcher/starter. I wouldn’t rule out the Rangers making a trade or going a little over their budget to sign the backup catcher and starter that they covet. I just don’t think that Sheets is the guy anymore. My guess is that the Rangers had to decide between Harden and Sheets and they decided on Harden. Like it or hate it but this is pretty much going to be the team that we have going into 2010. To me I think that we look better than we did in 2009 and I look foward to the wild wild west.

hmm.. smells danger to the opponent..

This would be a great opportunity for Vladimir Guerrero. Good luck.

congrats vladi!
