German, Rapada outrighted to OKC…Geary, Olmedo signed
The Rangers have announced that infielder Esteban German and left-handed pitcher Clay Rapada have cleared outright waivers and been assigned to Triple A Oklahoma City. Both are still expected to be in Major League camp for Spring Training. They have also signed two players to Minor League contracts with invitations to Spring Training, pitcher Geoff Geary and infielder Ray Olmedo.
Geary was 1-3 with an 8.10 ERA with the Astros last year as a reliever and 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA at Triple A Round Rock. He is 16-10 with a 3.92 ERA in 287 relief appearances with the Phillies and Astros over parts of the last seven seasons.
The Astros acquired him two years ago in a trade that sent Brad Lidge to the Phillies.
Olmedo, another utility infield candidate, hit .250 with six home runs and 47 RBI in 115 games for Triple A Durham in the Tampa Bay organization. A switch-hitter, he has a career .228 average in 198 games with the Reds and Blue Jays.
