And there is Mike Lowell
There is a rumor floating that the Rangers are working on a deal to acquire infielder Mike Lowell from the Red Sox. He would be the right-handed bat that the Rangers have been trying acquiring and could play first base, third base and designated hitter. The Rangers would give up catcher Max Ramirez

Please God tell me this a joke.
This would be agreat deal a dream deal for the rangers lets do it!!
he is owed 12 million. how would this trade work?
boston would have to be picking up some of the contract prolly about half of it.
Wow. Go get Dye and keep Max in the system
this is ridiculous! Lowell is going to be 36 make $12M (34HRs, 148RBIs in 2yrs) and then there is 1B/3B Cantu who is going to be 28 make around $4-5M (45HRs, 195RBIs in 2yrs FOR THE MARLINS!) AM I MISSING SOMETHING?
Keep C Ramirez! and ship McCarthy and if needed another prospect for Cantu…its just would make a lot of sense.
Come on guys rameriz is trash if we can get get rid of him for anything thar will be good!! Get Lowell or ship him & bmac for cantu that would be great to it would be great either way in my book
Lowell’s contract is $12 million for 2010. He’s never been a DH, never played 1st base and he had hip surgery in 2009. Why!! Just sign a free agent.
Max can hit the ball, he just needs playing time. We need catching are looking for catching and we trade a minor league catching prospect that just needs consistent playing time????? Daniels is re living his past. Blalock and Danks for Lowell and Beckett. Well that would have been a good deal then because he turned around and gave Danks away anyway. You have to look project these things 4 years down the line. 4 years from now Lowell will be retired. Max if he remains healthy will play for 15 years and hit the ball like nothing else. If the Red Sox want Ramirez and are willing to eat 12 million to get them then they believe Ramirez is a player. Obviously what is going on here is #1 the Rangers believe that 2010 is our year, so they are going for broke. I am not against getting Lowell, but i am against giving them Ramirez. I would go for VLADDY the Ranger killer and if i couldn’t get him, i would get DYE. I love Max, he got messed around last year because of the WBC and he never recovered. Again if he is healthy he will pay big dividends for the Red Sox. He can play for a perenial top of the division team, but he can’t play here? Typical Ranger BS. I am sure that TR is loving this one, a catcher who can hit the ball. Max is scrappy and i was there when he got bowled over at the plate in 2008 and then got up and threw to third. Right then i realized that guy can play, but no SALTY wants to catch…. What a joke.
Teagarden and Ramirez are better catchers today than Salta La mancha will ever be……
I’m a little torn on this one because I believe in Max’s bat and OBP skills. On the other hand he doesn’t have a defensive position and the Rangers have other bats in the system (Moreland, RF and Smoak 1B) who will be able to play defense at the big league level. Lowell is a good, veteran bat who might be able to stay healthy if he’s primarly a DH. He’s got playoff experience and the Sox are likely willing to pay most of his contract, two very important things.
Big picture, I guess I’m ok with it. Ultimately it’s flipping 2 months of Kenny Lofton’s services, when we were out of the hunt into a full season of Mike Lowell’s services when we need a right handed bat to make a run at the Angels.
Once again Hefe is the voice of reason in a sea of snot. Our catchers for the near future are Saltalamachia and Teagarden. Panic will subside on Saltalamachia and people will realize he just came back a little early from his surgery. Lowell, Snyder and Ray are great additions and really unless something opportunistic comes along we’ve got the team we need. They can try Feliz/Wilson at starter in the Spring with the new bullpen addition and we’ve got insurance for Davis and Young along with a solid bat. With all the bashing I’ve done of Daniels I have to say he really did a good job on this.
I liked Max too but it seems to me when he went back to the minors he lost heart. To me that’s not the sign of a pro. We just didn’t have a place for him. When he gets a chance in 2011 I’ll bet he hits a ton. And now we can concentrate on Smoak and Moreland. If you haven’t been watching Moreland please do. This guy is going to give us a nice outfiled “problem” real soon.
And for those Millwood lovers out there. We don’t have to keep a 12 million dollar wonder to mentor our young guys….we’ve got Maddux…he’s yooung enough and experiend enough to do that. Great moves Rangers. I can’t wait for the action to begin!
dont give up ramirez. get Lowell if you can for a lesser prospect and cash. Teach Ramirez to play first and catch. If the Rangers need a right handed bat, then use Ramirez and send Tea to the minors, since he is a left handed bat, and not as good offensively as Ramirez, or use German, whose stats last year at OKC are better than Borbon! Let German play as a sub for Borbon against lefties, and put Vlad in outfield. Use Murphy as sub for Davis against lefties. When facing right handed pitcher, put Murphy at first and let Davis go to third to give Young a break. Use German to give Kinsler and Andrus a break.
