Rangers offer arbitration to Byrd, Rodriguez
The Rangers have offered arbitration to both Marlon Byrd and Ivan Rodriguez. Since both are Type B free agents, the Rangers would receive compensation with a supplememental first round pick if they sign with another team.

I hope both accept arbitration and understant this may have been the only way either could be signed under the current $ sittuation.
if they accept arbritration they and rangers must accept what is awarded. correct, and usually that is lower than free agency, correct? but not always, once they accept if they think it is to low can they reject this offer and sign with someone else
I think that this is a very shrewd move by the Rangers. To get Bryd for one year and arbitration-like money would be a steal.
Rodriguez still has something left to give, I am sure he will take this opportunity (it may be his best chance at a contract.)
Good Luck and God Bless the Rangers , Bryd, and Pudge.
Hopefully they will both take the deal, but I think Byrd is going to test the market. I want Pudge to retire as a Ranger and it is apparently his preference. I think he has alot to offer, especially as a mentor to Salty and TT.
Byrd wants a multi-year deal and will get one somewhere, but Pudge will probably accept and return for a 1 year deal unless he wildly overestimates the existing market for his services, like he did last offseason.
One can only hope they accept. In Byrd’s case maybe just as a vehicle to buy time for further negotiations. Although at his age and point in his career he may be looking for the golden parachute contract that sets him and his family up for a long time. Who can blame him? He worked his **** off for it.
Pudge’s career should finish here, and I’m not so sure when the end of his productive days will be. He proved last year, he is still a solid defensive catcher and can be a poster boy for situational hitting.
Regardless of what happens, this is a solid move by the front office
Byrd & Pudge must understand that this Org is about to turn into something very substantial… being apart of that ground floor base will pay-off in the long run. It’s comfy and correct for both to accept the Rangers offer. The carrot is still there.
