Eyre in, Guardado out

Relief pitcher Willie Eyre has been called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Eddie Guardado was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left knee inflammation to make room for Eyre on the 25-man roster.

Guardado’s move is retroactive to Saturday, which makes him eligible to return August 30.

Eyre is 0-0 with a 4.91 ERA over six relief appearances and three stints with the Rangers this season. Guardado is 1-2 with a 4.32 ERA over 42 relief appearances for the Rangers this season.

The Rangers have a full 40-man roster after this move.

This is a good time to give Guardado a notebook and retire his glove, except for maybe when he is coaching or working with kids that he is scouting. Guardado had a long, successful career, but the guy just doesn’t have it anymore.

Bad as I hate to say it, it’s over for Eddie. I am really curious why they didn’t bring AJ Murray up. Eyre has not looked good after coming back. Hurry up McCarthy!

There’s nothing wrong with Guardado’s knee, it’s his arm that is and has been the problem. It doesn’t have any giddiup in it. This is a polite way to shelve Eddie without major damage to the ego. But Wash will have him back the 30th right before the rosters expand. But Eddie will not be returning to “mound duty” unless the run disparity is double digit.

AJ Murray has an ERA over 6 since the end of June. Mike Hinckley has been great most of the season, but had a terrible July. Neither is on the 40 man roster.
