Rangers, Purke still talking but no deal yet
The Rangers are entering into last-hour negotiations with left-handed pitcher Matt Purke, their first round pick from Houston Klein High School.
The Rangers have until 11 p.m. to sign him. At t-minus four hours, no deal had been struck. There is a sizeable financial gap in the discussions. Purke will end up at TCU if he doesn’t sign.
There have been alternating reports of optimism and pessimism all day long. At 7 p.m., general manager Jon Daniels was neutral and guarded.
“We haven’t ruled anything out at this point,” Daniels said. “It’s kind of fruitless for me to speculate at this point.
