Francisco moves back in closer's role

On a Friday night at Angel Stadium…

* Manager Ron Washington said Frank Francisco is moving into the closer’s role again and C.J. Wilson will go back into a setup role. Francisco has been on the disabled list three times this year and Wilson has filled in as closer when he was unavailable.

But Washington prefers Francisco in the ninth inning now that he is healthy again.

“Frankie is a one-inning guy and C.J. is a multiple innings guy,” Washington said. “He just gives us more versatility. He’s done an outstanding job. He really has.”

Francisco has 15 saves this year and Wilson has 14.

* The Rangers officially called up outfielder Julio Borbon on Friday. Nelson Cruz remains unavailable because of a sprained left ankle. The Rangers have not considered putting Cruz on the disabled list because they think he could be ready by the time they open a three-game series with the Indians on Tuesday in Cleveland.

Reaction to Padilla…

Official reaction from players about Vicente Padilla being designated for assignment.

“About time,” Marlon Byrd said.

“I support J.D.’s decision,” third baseman Michael Young said. “We need to put any uncertainty on this club behind. This time is too important to us. This is the way the organization feels, it’s time to move on.”

Wash by the book? Hamilton, Blalock and Murphy …. lefties
hitting tonite against Angels.

thats a tough three lefties besides palmer is in the game now a rhp..he now has to face the texas murders row!

I love Byrd’s comment about Padilla lol.

I guess MY supports JD on that one. He is tired of getting thrown at every time Padilla decided to be a jerk. Marlon’s comment is about as honest as it gets.

Frankie in the 9th does seem to work better. I like CJ but this arrangement seems to be the best.
