Padilla scratched..Mathis starting

Vicente Padilla has been scratched from Tuesday’s start because he has not fully recovered from the flu. Doug Mathis will start in his place against the Detroit Tigers.

This is the second straight time that Padilla has been scratched from a start for what was diagnosed as the swine flu.

The Rangers are hoping that Padilla will pitch Thursday or Friday against the Mariners.

Derek Holland pitches Thursday but he could get pushed back. He could be pushed back to Friday if Kevin Millwood isn’t ready. Millwood is improving but still unsure if he’ll be able to start on Friday because of a strained gluteus muscle. Dustin Nippert could also make that start.

Tommy Hunter pitches on Saturday. Holland could be pushed back to Sunday if Padilla goes on Thursday and Millwood goes on Friday.

Can we please trade for a fifth starter now please? Our bullpen is going to be gassed by September if we keep calling upon them. We’re fortunate that things have gone so well with Nippert that past 10 days, but we can’t keep counting on performances like that. Marcus Lemon or any other middle infielders or catchers should be shopped now for an available arm. They will all be blocked at the major league level anyway.

Aw, I was really looking foward to Padilla pitching…oh well. I’d rather have him back healthy then have him back sick.

Looks like we micht as well go on with out Padilla. He sure has been on the DL a lot

Time to play conspiracy theorist…

Is this just a convenient excuse to keep him out of action whilst a trade is in the offing…

Doubtful, but a fun thought.
