Nippert replaces Padilla
Dustin Nippert is going to pitch for the Rangers on Tuesday against the Angels. The Rangers are going to pitch Vicente Padilla back to either Wednesday or Thursday while he continues to deal with sore soreness in his right shoulder.
Nippert has been on the disabled list since the beginning of the season with a strained muscle in the back of his right shoulder but has a 2.55 ERA in five games, including four starts, on medical rehabilitation assignment and should be ready to go.
The Rangers are hoping Padilla can throw a side session in the bullpen on Monday and be ready to go either Wednesday or Thursday. He would bump either Derek Holland or Tommy Hunter. Padilla was on the disabled list earlier this year with a strained right shoulder but this is not considered as severe.
“We just want to give him a few extra days,” general manager Jon Daniels said. “At this point it’s not expected to be a D.L. situation.”
