Borbon in starting lineup

The Rangers called up outfielder Julio Borbon from Triple-A Oklahoma City and send reliever Willie Eyre to Oklahoma City to make room for Borbon on the 25-man roster.

Borbon is penciled to hit sixth in tonight’s lineup as the designated hitter. In 71 games with Oklahoma City, he was hitting .298 (90-for-302). He had a .323 average (32-for-99) in June, which raised his season average from .286.

Borbon has primarily played center field for Oklahoma City and led off. He has also played a bit of left field, the position manager Ron Washington said Borbon may play Tuesday.

The Rangers drafted Borbon 35th overall in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft.

The Rangers were carrying eight relief pitchers — 13 pitchers total — which left them with three bench players before this move. Washington said he would carry 13 pitchers until the bullpen settled down after heavy use.

Eyre has thrown 5 1/3 innings for the Rangers this season after returning from the disabled list. He has a 5.06 ERA with the Rangers. Eyre had been on the disabled list from April 23 until June 25 with a right groin strain.

I understand them not wanting to lead him off, being a rookie, but DHing is quite a surprise. Welcome Julio.

this is very weird we are so use to the rangers playing 14 to 12 ball games but the pitching is actually doing the job even though we keep losing guys the rangers are just tryin to do whatever they can do to get this offense going

Should have made it a tri-fecta ticket and brought Smoak and Feliz up with him. I can name three players who shouldnt be playing right now, Andruw Jones – his hot start much like the Rangers has come back to Earth, Chris Davis – like the guy, but he needs to find that swing again and his confidence, and the other guy was moved to make room for Bourbon, Eyre. Good move, but I am ready for other two to be here as well……you can still say 2010, but find a way in 2009! go Rangers!

in the 6th spot? a 50+base stealer doesnt make sense…he should be batting 8th or 9th. And DHing? all that speed sitting around? he should be in CF pretty soon and move Hamilton to LF/DH.

interesting, though i hope Eyre gets back soon, I would send Mathis down before him. Welcome to the bigs Julio, don’t let us down.

i totally agree with thepiranha, get smoak and felliz up here as soon as possible. i’m so glad the rangers have nolan ryan and the fact their not trading these guys like they have in the past. i’ve been a die hard rangers fan since the age of 16 and i’ll soon be 53 and would love to see the rangers win a world series before i leave this world. go rangers!

I love this move. Possibly Julio Borbon is here to stay and Andruw Jones is on his way to being traded in a package for a reliever or starter? Justin Smoak and Neftali Feliz are next. But I don’t understand Ron Washington for using Borbon as the DH. Let him play outfield and give Marlon Byrd or David Murphy some rest as the DH. But it’s a great move in my opinion. Hopefully he can add a spark to our currently slumping lineup. And when Hamilton gets back we can expect to see the Rangers hitting again. Even when Josh isn’t hitting, his presence in the lineup alone just changes everything. But things are looking better Ranger fans. Go Rangers!

Thank you Rangers… easy greasy, let him smooth the jitters. Anywhere in the lineup is a plus, if he can be moved as a runner. Do we have a bunter behind him? A contact hitter for a Hit&Run? All in due time, I am assuming? Will be interesting to see what Wash has to say in a week or two. Also how Wash plays the field now. Lets manufacture some runs, Sir Ron. Josh soon back… I’m ready for real Baseball.

Amen to ranger_d. Why in the world are we not bunting last night in bottom of 5 with men on first and second and no one out? One run game at that point, offense struggling a bit over the past few games…get something going! Instead of the 4 and 5 hitters coming up with two men in scoring position, Murphy weakly pops out and Byrd hits into an inning ending double play. Angles break take the lead in the top half of the next inning and the game is over.

Back on topic, the team has some exciting young players, but there are three rookies – Andrus, Davis (esentially) and now Borbon – in your lineup. I guess it’s more important to get young players at bats than it is to win a division series.

Im discussted with Blalock, Davis, and Jones. They go yard or strike out, tired of the bs. Give me oldman Olmar any day over these guy’s. Pitching has been good, know where is the hitting that we have allways had. put it together and we have a contending team.
